Chapter 91 - CHAPTER 91

Acting practice

"How did you just do that? Compared to last time, it was on a whole different level."

Was it really that good? I did immerse myself in the role, but it's not like I was doing full-on method acting.

"Didn't you teach me? To imagine the surroundings and sink into the character?"

"And you managed that right away?"

"I've got a vivid imagination."

"Huh…."

Moon Chang-sik let out a baffled breath and then returned to his spot.

"Alright, shall we try it once more right away? The performance wasn't flawless, but it was excellent."

Again?

I mean, it's not impossible….

"Let me calm down a little first…."

"Calm down?"

"I know it sounds silly, but acting out the script exactly makes my hands and feet curl up."

I rolled up my sleeve and showed him the goosebumps on my arm. Moon Chang-sik nodded in understanding.

"When you're reading straight from the script, it can feel that way. But once you see it on camera, it won't come across as cringey."

"Really?"

"The writer's a professional. Even if it feels that way to you, the end result will look fine. And it's an actor's job to deliver it naturally."

Hearing him explain it like that, it sounded convincing… but could I really pull it off?

"Alright, let's try again."

Well, I'll find out as I go.

This time, unlike earlier, I managed to finish the practice scene without collapsing midway.

"Excellent. Very good."

"I don't think it was that good…."

I hadn't flopped over like before, but I did stumble over my lines.

My eye-line work was clumsy too.

"Have confidence. You're doing very well. The rough edges can always be smoothed out."

"…Right."

Confidence, huh. That's true—without it, nothing works.

"More importantly, you really do have talent."

"Really?"

"Yes. Even if parts are awkward, the fact that you can immerse yourself in the role at all is a gift."

Wow… hearing that from a top actor actually felt pretty good.

"Then shall we go again right away?"

"Uh, give me a second to rest…"

"Of course. But I think if we do this a few more times, you'll start to get the feel for it."

"The feel?"

"Yes, you're better than I expected, so it's motivating me too."

Wait, isn't I'm the one who's supposed to get the feel, not him?

"Anyway, acting's all about repetition. You're improving bit by bit, so let's practice as much as possible today."

"Understood."

What I didn't know when I agreed…

Was that his definition of "a lot" and mine were completely different.

Or maybe I did know.

After all, hadn't I already seen how much effort the top 1% put in—back in the composer's recording studio?

And now I was about to experience it again, in this rented room.

"Once more."

"That was good. But this time…"

"When you open the door, add this gesture…"

And so, I repeated the same lines dozens of times before Moon Chang-sik finally let me go.

The man was insane… in the end, he even used my exhausted body as a prop to rehearse his own lines.

I was grateful he'd taken the time to coach me, but God, let this be the last time.

**

After getting home and having dinner, I kept my promise and logged in to play with Tenshi.

[Welcome!]

"Did I keep you waiting long?"

[Oh, no! I was working too.]

Good—that was a relief.

We hadn't set a fixed time, and I knew I was a little late, so I'd worried. But I guess not.

[By the way, Soo-hyun! No stream today? You skipped yesterday too.]

Yesterday? Right, I'd declared it a rest day, so I hadn't streamed. But wait—Tenshi… actually watches my streams?

Well, ever since I picked up Beat Saber, my Japanese audience has grown.

Since I mostly play Japanese songs in rhythm games, it's easier for Japanese viewers to watch.

"Ah, I just wanted to take a break yesterday. I'll probably stream after we finish gaming today."

[Etto… then why don't we make this a collab stream? I need to stream anyway, so we could do it together!]

Collab?

In Korean terms, that'd be a joint broadcast.

Hmm… maybe it's about time.

During the Civilization craze, then Beat Saber… honestly, my viewer numbers hadn't really dropped, but things felt more stable now.

And lately, complaints about Beat Saber were cropping up anyway. Yeah, this would be a good chance.

I'd gotten pretty close with Tenshi too.

"Sure, sounds good. What time should we go live? Don't Japanese VTubers usually set up waiting rooms ahead of time?"

[You know about that? Well, I don't mind starting right away! Sometimes it's fun to go spontaneous.]

Oh no… once you get hooked on guerilla streams, there's no going back.

Still, since Tenshi said it was fine, I started setting up my stream.

[Anything I should be careful about saying on stream?]

"Just names. And the end-of-year live is still a secret."

[Ah! Names and the live! Got it!]

Come to think of it, what is Tenshi's real name? I gave mine, but I never caught theirs.

I'll have to ask sometime.

Anyway, time to start the stream.

"Okay, going live now. Ready?"

[Hai!]

And so, the broadcast began.

[Surprise! A special guest gaming collab!]

???

Guest?

What?

No Beat Saber today?

LOL

Just as expected, the clickbait-y title quickly pulled in viewers.

"Testing, testing, can you all hear me?"

I muted Discord and spoke to my viewers.

Looks like Tenshi had muted too, probably greeting their own audience.

Yeah

Who's the guest?

Hurry up and tell us!

These little punks… so impatient.

"Alright, just a moment."

I DM'd Tenshi on Discord, suggesting we count down and then greet the audience together. They agreed.

So who is it?

Spit it out already

So no Beat Saber today, right?

As the chat scrolled rapidly upward, I typed a countdown into Discord. Moments later, Tenshi unmuted their mic.

[Kon-ten-shi! Murasaki Tenshi desu!]

An energetic greeting burst out immediately.

Wow, the difference of a pro. That came out so naturally.

"Konbanwa~ Miro desu~"

I unmuted my mic too, greeting Tenshi's viewers in the same way.

Listeners—that's what they're called in Japanese, right?

???

Huh??

Japanese?

Whoa, the voice

No way, wtf

No warning stream??

Who is this?

Sure enough, the chat went wild.

Well, it was sudden.

But isn't that the fun of a Miro stream? That thumping excitement of guerilla collabs.

I bet Tenshi's viewers were just as surprised.

Imagine tuning in and suddenly your oshi is collabing with some foreign VTuber.

"So, we were just planning to game off-stream, but Tenshi suggested we go live, so here we are."

Bragging about off-stream gaming, huh?

Nice, good call

Da Ten-shi

Who the hell is Tenshi??

[Thanks for the 10,000 won donation, Jang Inmiro-nim!]

The fuck, front-facing Beat Saber and back-facing Japanese girl gamer?? Are we starting a revolution here??

LMAO

Revolution vibes fr

Is Miro blushing?

"Whoa, calm down. If you look at my match history, you'll see I haven't played much lately."

Which means you have played before

Who IS Tenshi tho

So what game today?

"Tenshi is my Japanese friend. And today, we'll be playing Royal Ground."

I switched the screen over to the game lobby.

LET'S GOOO

Finally, holy shit

So we don't have to watch that cursed rhythm game anymore?

Three-hour stream today, right?

[Thanks for the 1,000 won donation, OOO-nim!]

Miro-nim, they added a new map—was this intentional?

"New map? What did they add?"

I usually never read patch notes, so I had no clue.

Japan map added

No way this wasn't planned lol

A Japan map?

Guess that makes sense. I know there's a Korea map, at least.

Checking the announcement, sure enough—there it was.

Cherry blossoms scattered across the map, wooden buildings tucked between them.

Oh… pretty.

I wondered if Tenshi knew about this.

They were probably muted, chatting with their viewers, so I asked:

"Tenshi, did you know there's a new map?"

[Map? Eh? Ehh—chotto…]

Huh, guess not.

Maybe they're like me and skip patch notes.

I heard their mouse clicking, then a gasp of surprise.

[Ehh—sugee! Let's play this one!]

"Sounds good."

I thought it looked gorgeous too. And hey—streamers are duty-bound to test the new content, right?

Wow, Tenshi's Korean is good

Miro, aren't you gonna speak Japanese?

Yeah, say something for once

So we set our first game on the brand-new Japan map and queued up.

And instantly got a match.

"What the—instant queue? Wait, don't tell me, are you guys…"

Come to think of it, with both our streams combined, how many viewers did we have?

LET'S GOOO

Queue sniping time

Been waiting all day for this

Yeah… probably half the lobby were snipers.

And sure enough—

Even in the waiting room, people started crowding around us, and I let out a dry laugh.

This was going to be a rough night.
