The fingers of the participants trembled, and so did their faces. Chunks of meat collapsed from the skies, painting their attire red. A large, powerful beast had appeared out of nowhere—one second the games were running, the next they were forced to stop. Then it blew up. It almost felt like that had been its mission from the start. And yet,many thought it exploded because of someone, the only individual close enough when it happened.

Suspicion filled the air as different takes on what transpired began to form.
"He wanted to kill it himself all along!"
"He's just a greedy bastard!"
They whispered among themselves—those whose attacks Jamie had neutralized and pushed off the grid. Yet deep down, they were grateful. Their own attacks wouldn't have sufficed. They wouldn't have worked.
Jamie knelt on the ground, staring at his bloody hands. Tears dropped rapidly onto his palms as his head froze in place.
