Chapter 93 - Chapter 93:[The Festival OF Masks ARC ] The Ripple

Chapter 93 (Part 05)

The second morning of the tournament arrived without ceremony.

The sun rose the same way it had the day before slow, golden, indifferent. The flags still snapped in the breeze. The food stalls still steamed with the scent of fresh bread and spiced tea. The students still laughed, shouted, and pushed each other in the endless dance of youth.

But something had changed.

Alok felt it the moment he stepped onto the festival grounds. The air was heavier. The glances were sharper. People whispered when he passed.

He had become known.

The one who defeated Viktor Ash in one round.

Alok did not acknowledge the whispers. He walked through the crowd like a ghost, his eyes scanning, his mind cataloging.

The first matches of the day had already begun. On the volleyball court, Sera Dawnfield was leading her team with sharp precision.

Her movements were flawless, her smile bright. But Alok noticed the way her fingers trembled between points.

Debt or fear, he thought. I will find out which.

On the football field, Kael Stormcrest was weaving through defenders with impossible speed.

The crowd roared. He grinned. But Alok saw the way his eyes darted to the bleachers, searching for something.

Or someone.

He's running from something, Alok thought. Not toward victory. Away.

Alok's second match was scheduled for midday.

He spent the morning watching. Learning. Waiting.

He watched Erik Coldsteel dismantle his opponent in the combat arena. Erik moved like a machine cold, precise, efficient. He did not show off. He did not taunt. He simply won, then walked away.

But Alok noticed something.

After the match, Erik did not celebrate with his teammates. He stood alone at the edge of the arena, his eyes fixed on the sky.

He's looking for something, Alok thought. Something above. Something beyond.

Alok filed the observation away.

At noon, Alok stepped into the combat arena.

His opponent was a tall, broad-shouldered boy from Drakemoor. His name was Marcus Vex Dorian Vex's younger brother. He wore the same black and bronze colors, the same arrogant smirk.

He cracked his knuckles as Alok approached.

"So you're the one who beat Viktor," Marcus said, his voice loud enough for the crowd to hear. "I don't see anything special."

Alok said nothing.

"Don't worry," Marcus continued, grinning. "I'll go easy on you."

Alok tilted his head slightly.

Arrogance, he thought. Same as his brother. Same as Viktor. They all believe strength is about power. They are wrong.

The whistle blew.

Marcus charged.

He was fast faster than he looked. His fist cut through the air toward Alok's face. It was a powerful strike. A devastating strike.

It missed.

Alok had moved a fraction of a second before the punch landed. A single step to the side. A single shift of his weight.

Marcus stumbled, off balance.

Alok did not strike. He simply stepped back, waiting.

Marcus recovered quickly, his face reddening. "Lucky shot," he growled.

He attacked again. A combination of punches and kicks, fast and aggressive.

Alok dodged each one. Not gracefully. Just... barely.

Let him think I'm just fast, Alok thought. Let him underestimate me.

Marcus grew frustrated. His punches became wilder. Less controlled.

And then Alok saw it.

A gap.

Marcus's left side was open when he threw a right hook. A small gap. A fraction of a second.

Alok moved.

One step. One punch. One strike to the ribs.

Marcus gasped, his body folding. Before he could recover, Alok swept his leg and sent him crashing to the ground.

The crowd erupted.

Alok stood over Marcus, his face calm, his breathing steady. He extended his hand.

Marcus stared at it, his face a mixture of shock and fury. Then, slowly, he took it.

Alok pulled him to his feet.

"Good fight," Alok said quietly.

Marcus blinked. Then, reluctantly, he nodded.

"Yeah... good fight."

Alok walked away without looking back.

Afternoon stretched into evening.

Alok sat alone on the bleachers, watching the last matches of the day. The sun was low, painting the sky in shades of orange and crimson. The crowd had thinned.

He heard footsteps approaching.

Erik Coldsteel sat down beside him, his eyes fixed on the empty arena.

"Your fight was impressive," Erik said quietly. "You let him think he had a chance."

Alok said nothing.

"You didn't just win," Erik continued. "You controlled the fight from the first second. You read his rhythm, found his weakness, and ended it when you chose to."

Alok turned to look at him. "You watch closely."

Erik smiled faintly. "I watch everything. It's how I survive."

A pause.

"You're looking for something," Alok said.

Erik's smile faded. His eyes grew distant.

"Everyone is looking for something," Erik replied. "The question is whether they'll find it."

He stood and walked away.

Alok watched him go.

He's hiding something. Something deeper than the tournament.

POV SHIFT

In the KUA Girls' High School tent, Ceya sat alone.

Her hands were folded in her lap. Her expression was serene. But inside, a storm raged.

Alok.

She had seen him. She had seen his face, his eyes, the desperate hope in his gaze.

And she had felt something crack inside her.

He came for me. He's still here. He hasn't given up.

Lisa's voice whispered in her mind.

He is a distraction. You will forget him. You will obey.

Ceya's fingers trembled.

No. I won't forget. I can't.

She reached for a pen. Her hand shook as she wrote on a scrap of paper.

HELP ME.

She stared at the words.

Then Lisa's voice returned, colder than before.

You will not write that again. You will be silent. You will be still.

Ceya's hand moved on its own. It crumpled the paper and threw it away.

But she had written it.

And somewhere, deep inside, she smiled.

POV SHIFT

Lady Vaelia Laison sat in the shadows of an empty tent, her phone glowing in her hand.

[Message Received: Alok defeated Marcus Vex. He is gaining attention.]

Vaelia smiled.

Good. Let him rise. The higher he climbs, the harder he will fall.

She typed a reply:

[Message Sent: Send Tira to speak with him. Make it seem like a coincidence. I want to see how he reacts.]

She pocketed the phone and leaned back, her eyes cold.

Dance for me, little Alok. Dance, and I will show you what true power looks like.

The night was quiet.

Alok walked home alone, his hands in his pockets, his mind churning. He replayed Erik's words, Ceya's empty eyes, Vaelia's invisible presence.

Everyone is looking for something.

He touched the pendant beneath his shirt. It was warm, pulsing faintly.

What am I looking for?

The answer came immediately.

The truth.

He looked up at the stars. Somewhere beyond them, in the immortal realm, Freya was watching. And somewhere closer, in the shadows of the festival, Vaelia was plotting.

Alok clenched his fists.

I will find the truth. And I will save them all.
