Chapter 98 - Ch.98

Seeing the T-002 Tyrant enter its berserk state, Jill, Rebecca, and the others were stunned. They couldn't believe the T-002 Tyrant was still alive. Barry and Chris had subjected it to a high-voltage execution in the lab, and the Tyrant's own flesh had begun to burn.

But now... it was full of vigor.

Especially outrageous was the ring of hideous, blood-red muscle armor covering the T-002 Tyrant. Its overall bulk had nearly doubled. Its thick arms looked exaggerated, like inflated balloons, with veins bulging and emitting rolling white steam.

Was this the ultimate power the T-002 Tyrant gained by releasing its power limiter?

If so, it had to be admitted that the bio-weapon developed by the Umbrella Corporation was truly formidable. With a hidden second stage that could unleash immense power in a crisis, such a bio-weapon would cause devastating damage if put into mass production and deployed in war. While not the final weapon like nuclear weapons—the culmination of human ingenuity—bio-weapons had fewer restrictions. Though inhuman bio-weapons had been explicitly banned since World War II, some could still skirt the rules and use them without consequence. Nuclear weapons were different; their use would immediately violate treaties and trigger collective retaliation from other nations.

Not to mention, the bio-weapons developed by Umbrella were intelligent. This only made them more convenient. It was no wonder Umbrella was obsessed with them; nuclear weapons were strictly controlled and development was slow, offering less immediate efficiency than bio-weapons.

"Roar! Roar! Roar—!!!"

With a roar that shook the heavens, the T-002 Tyrant, its limiter removed, roared at Rebecca and the others. Its white eyes showed sheer fury, and it charged towards them instantly, stampeding like a gigantic mad elephant.

"Monster!"

"Don't come here—!!!"

Seeing this, Chris immediately stepped forward. He pulled out the M500 Revolver given to him by Javier. The black muzzle aimed at the T-002 Tyrant's head, and he swiftly pulled the trigger. With a "boom," the .50 caliber bullet was launched with massive force, shooting out at a phenomenal speed!

The sight was aimed at the T-002 Tyrant's head. A solid hit could easily explode the monster's skull.

But the T-002 Tyrant gave Chris no chance. It suddenly raised its hand to shield its head, letting Chris's M500 bullet strike its palm. The .50 caliber round tore a massive wound in the Tyrant's hand, nearly blowing it completely off. It was a bloody mess, only barely clinging by strands of flesh. Blood splattered everywhere, but the attack did not inflict a fatal wound.

"Roar—!!!"

As the shot ended, the distance between them closed rapidly. The T-002 Tyrant roared again, its massive claw slashing towards Chris's face. Chris had no time to dodge and could only cross his arms for a block.

However, Chris was clearly not deterred by Enrico's injury. Bravo Team Captain Enrico had been instantly knocked unconscious by a similar attack from the T-002 Tyrant, which showed the monster's immense power.

"Bang—!"

A dull thud followed. The giant claw struck Chris instantly. A terrifying force surged through him. Chris felt the same as Captain Enrico before him, as if he had been hit by a high-speed truck. Completely helpless, he was instantly hurled several meters, slamming heavily onto the ground like a broken kite.

Inevitably, blood spilled from Chris's mouth. He slowly lifted his head, trying to push himself up, but his limbs were numb, as if his body no longer belonged to him. After struggling for a few seconds, the overwhelming dizziness forced Chris into unconsciousness.

"Chris!"

"Damn it, monster, leave Chris alone!"

Seeing the T-002 Tyrant knock down the inexperienced Chris with a single blow, Jill and Barry immediately reacted, shouting loudly and firing their weapons frantically to draw the Tyrant's aggression and prevent it from finishing off Chris.

But Jill and Barry quickly realized that the T-002 Tyrant, having released its limiter, had an even more ridiculous defense than before. Neither shotguns nor handguns could penetrate the Tyrant's blood-red muscle armor. Only the M500 Revolver in Chris's hand posed a genuine threat.

Just as Jill and Barry were at a loss, a loud buzzing and whirring of helicopter blades rapidly filled the air above.

"Vroom-vroom-vroom..."

"Tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat—!!!"

Strong gusts of air swept down. Jill and Barry quickly looked up. It was the S.T.A.R.S.-issue armed helicopter, painted entirely black, bearing the Raccoon City Police badge and the S.T.A.R.S. designation.

In the pilot's seat was the Alpha Team pilot, the so-called coward, Brad Vickers, who gave them a thumbs-up. The man who had fled in terror at the sight of the Doberman Zombies was now back to pick them up—his conscience had finally returned.

"Hey...! Sorry to keep you waiting, Jill," he called out.

"My bad back then. I apologize for my cowardice. As for that monster, don't worry! Don't be afraid. Fear is irrelevant in the face of absolute firepower. Hit it with this gear; I guarantee that monster will be instantly blown to bits!"

Brad, flying the armed helicopter, was visibly relieved and excited. As long as S.T.A.R.S. hadn't been completely wiped out, he wouldn't bear the shame of being a deserter and a coward.

Brad automatically hovered the armed helicopter and then tossed a Quad Rocket Launcher from the back seat. This thing should make quick work of any monster. He had spent a great deal of effort convincing the armory attendant and the Chief to lend him this heavy weapon.

The M202A1 FLASH Quad Rocket Launcher, developed by the U.S. military, was renowned for its powerful firepower, diverse ammunition options (including HEAT, incendiary, and gas rounds), and accuracy.

With a muffled sound, the Quad Rocket Launcher landed. Its sturdy steel casing showed no dent from the ten-meter fall. Jill's eyes lit up as she saw the deep green launcher. She quickly grabbed it, shouldered it steadily, and clicked on the targeting sight.

"Click—!"

The crosshairs instantly locked onto the T-002 Tyrant's head. At this range, evasion was impossible; even the Tyrant's speed couldn't outpace a rocket. Jill looked at the T-002 Tyrant with a hint of pity. The monster was either lucky or unlucky to face a Quad Rocket Launcher for its end.

"Roar! Roar! Roar—!!!"

The mindless T-002 Tyrant didn't know what the weapon was. Enraged by Jill's defiance, it roared, tensed its muscles, and charged again. It intended to easily smash Jill with its giant claw, just as it had Chris. The T-002 Tyrant didn't view an insignificant creature like Jill as a threat.

But,

"..."

"Goodbye, monster!"

Jill's voice grew more pitying. She pulled the trigger, and the Quad Rocket Launcher instantly fired. A single 66mm rocket roared out, leaving a tail of scorching flame and white smoke, plunging at blinding speed to hit the T-002 Tyrant's chest.

"Whoosh—!!!"

"Bang... Boom-boom-boom————!!!"

A deafening explosion erupted. The instant the rocket hit the T-002 Tyrant, it unleashed a terrifying blast. The powerful heat and shrapnel ripped through the Tyrant's muscle armor effortlessly. In a flash, it was shredded into countless pieces of mutilated flesh. Its arms, head, chest, and entire body ceased to exist.

It was instantly atomized into a cloud of blood mist and meat chunks that splattered across the mansion rooftop. Looking at the huge pool of blood on the ground, it was hard to believe that a terrifying bio-monster had just been standing there.

The battle was over. The mansion base's self-destruct countdown was rapidly approaching its end.

Barry, checking his wrist watch, shouted a grave warning:

"..."

"Jill, there's no time left! Only two minutes remain! We can't stay here any longer. Get out now! And Rebecca, stop staring! Get on the helicopter; this place is about to explode!"

Barry hoisted the unconscious Bravo Captain Enrico and Chris onto the back seat of the helicopter and urgently called out to the stunned Jill and Rebecca.

Hearing this, Jill snapped back to reality and carried the Quad Rocket Launcher toward the armed helicopter.

But Rebecca did not move. She stared intently at the stairwell entrance for a long time, finally opening her mouth with stubborn resolve:

"No!"

"Javier hasn't followed us up. We can't abandon him. I'm his partner; I have to wait for him to come up before we leave, even if the mansion is about to explode!"

Her eyes hardened. Rebecca declared loudly, her face firm and stubborn. Jill slowly halted her steps, realizing Rebecca was right. They couldn't simply leave Javier behind, especially after all he had done for them. Jill and Barry had been worried all along but, as seasoned adults, had hidden their anxiety, silently hoping Javier would catch up. Their experience had prepared them for a potentially tragic outcome, leading them to tacitly accept Javier's absence, or even death.

But Rebecca's words jolted them. Without a body, they couldn't give up on a comrade who had repeatedly saved their lives.

"What's happening? Is there still someone missing?"

"What about the radio? Can you contact him? We can wait, but only for one minute and thirty seconds at most. We have to leave in the final thirty seconds, or we'll all be buried here!"

Brad, the pilot, realizing the seriousness of the argument, urgently questioned and explained the hard limit. However, Javier's radio remained silent, which severely disheartened Rebecca and Jill.

But just then, a miracle occurred—

"Thump-thump-thump..."

"Ho-ho-ho...!!!"

Just as Rebecca and Jill feared Javier wouldn't make it, a frantic sound of footsteps and a low growling came from the tunnel leading to the rooftop. Was it a zombie attack?

No!

A tall, gaunt, long-haired monster was carrying the unconscious Javier. With long, flaxen hair, dark red tips, a pale body clad only in simple sackcloth, and shackles clanging on its wrists and ankles, the creature sprinted onto the roof. Wrapped tightly in the tentacles on its back was a person.

It was Javier, and the monster was the girl, Lisa Trevor.

"Monster?!!!"

Pilot Brad was startled upon seeing the monster Lisa and prepared to strafe her with the helicopter's machine gun, but Barry loudly shouted, stopping him:

"Wait, don't shoot! She's not a monster! She's a girl, and she's carrying Javier! She's repaying a favor..."

Everyone saw Javier strapped to Lisa's back. He was still unconscious, his face covered in blood, which made Rebecca's heart ache, but she was relieved he was safe.

"Ho-ho-ho..."

"He... yours... take him... Go..."

The monster girl quickly reached the group and gently lowered the unconscious Javier from her back, speaking to Rebecca and Jill in a hoarse, blurred voice.

Lisa took one last, deep look at Javier. Then, without lingering or attempting to join them, she instantly turned and bounded away, leaping off the mansion rooftop, causing Jill and Rebecca to cry out in alarm. However, Lisa was not committing suicide; with the power of the G-Virus, the fall was not fatal. With the mansion about to explode and no room on the helicopter, she knew she had to leave immediately.

"Hey, Jill, time is running out!"

"Get on the helicopter now, or we'll really be stuck here!"

At this point, only fifty seconds remained until the mansion's self-destruct. The anxious pilot Brad urgently prompted them. Jill and Rebecca finally snapped out of their shock, quickly hoisted the unconscious Javier, and ran toward the helicopter.

Finally,

"Vroom-vroom-vroom—!!!"

"Tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat————!!!!"

The helicopter successfully took off, rapidly distancing itself from the mansion, flying towards the outside of the Arklay Mountains.

Under the morning sun, Jill, Rebecca, and the S.T.A.R.S. team had successfully escaped. With a massive "boom," the mansion self-destructed, consumed by fire and reduced to dust and ruins.

Sitting quietly inside the helicopter cabin, Pilot Brad's eyes flickered, glancing at Jill and Rebecca in the rearview mirror, lost in thought. Rebecca tenderly looked at Javier sleeping on her lap, gently wiping the blood from his wounds. Jill and Barry gazed at the rising sun in the distance, their minds heavy.

But one thing was certain: They had survived the ordeal.
