Chapter 99 - CHAPTER 99

Miserable Christabella

Julie walked in right after Xu Mo.

Looking at the wounded lying on the ground, a hint of surprise flickered across his face.

"Humans?" he murmured.

The others entered behind him, equally shocked.

They had expected monsters, not so many townsfolk hiding here.

But no one felt pity.

Just moments ago, these same people had braced the doors against them, refusing to open no matter how hard they pounded. The positions of the injured near the entrance made that clear enough.

As Xu Mo stepped deeper inside, the screams of those lying in his path grew sharper than the rest. Their wounds weren't random—he had adjusted his aim to strike with precision.

The others caught on quickly and did not hesitate.

Xu Mo moved until he stood before Christabella, who lay on the ground clutching her mangled leg, shrieking.

He crouched down, a calm smile on his lips.

"You were right about one thing."

Her eyes widened.

"Once I came in—none of you were going to be spared."

Christabella tried to crawl backward, terror twisting her face.

"Devil… he's a devil! Kill him!" she cried.

But the crowd didn't move.

They weren't stupid. The pistol was still in Xu Mo's hand. Charging him now was no different than suicide.

Xu Mo straightened, the smile never fading. In two steps, he caught up to Christabella and pressed his boot down on her shattered leg.

Her scream tore through the church.

"Where is Alessa?"

At the name, Christabella froze. For a moment, even her pain was forgotten as she stared at him in disbelief.

"You… you came here for that witch? What is your relationship with her?"

Xu Mo ground his heel deeper.

"That's none of your concern. Just answer the question."

Her resistance broke instantly.

"I'll tell you! I'll tell you!" she sobbed.

Xu Mo lifted his foot. Around them, the cultists lowered their heads, trembling.

Even Jason and the others who had followed Xu Mo stared at him as if seeing a stranger. What exactly is this man? Jason wondered. A mercenary? A terrorist? Something worse?

Before the thought could settle, movement rippled through the wounded.

Seven or eight figures suddenly sprang up, lunging at Xu Mo. At the same time, more than a dozen rushed forward from the crowd.

"Careful!" Jason shouted, raising his pistol—only to hear a hollow click. Empty. He cursed, tossed the weapon aside, and threw himself at one of the attackers.

Julie and Carl reacted instantly, stepping forward to intercept—

—but Xu Mo was faster.

The shrapnel buried in the wounded bodies trembled, then tore free under his telekinetic control.

With a chorus of screams, dozens of jagged fragments rose into the air.

They shot forward like bullets.

In less than three seconds, every attacker collapsed, each with a neat, bloody hole drilled into their forehead.

Jason, mid-tackle, crashed down onto an already lifeless body. He rolled the corpse over, staring in disbelief at the wound between its brows.

The others hadn't even followed what had happened. They only saw the cultists leap toward Xu Mo—then drop like puppets with their strings cut.

The survivors shrank back, eyes filled with terror.

To them, Xu Mo was no man, but a demon.

Julie, however, caught the detail others missed. She glanced at the wounded who still carried shrapnel in their flesh. So that's what he used…

Then, outside, the air-raid siren wailed again.

Xu Mo and the others turned as the blood-red hue drained from the town. The monsters faded, the streets once again swallowed by Silent Hill's pale fog.

Xu Mo's gaze swept the room. He pointed at two sturdier men.

"You two. Get up."

They paled, dropping to their knees.

"It wasn't us! She's the one who ordered it!" one cried, pointing at Christabella.

"That's right! It's all this wicked woman's fault! We couldn't resist them!" the other pleaded.

Xu Mo's voice cut sharp.

"Silence."

The two fell quiet immediately.

He gestured at Christabella.

"Pick her up. You're coming with me."

Relief flooded their faces. They hurried to lift the bishop, who whimpered in pain.

Xu Mo turned to the others.

"Stay here. The church is safe enough—just watch these people closely."

"Where are you going?" Julie asked, stepping forward.

"To finish this town's nightmare," Xu Mo answered simply, and walked out.

The two men followed, carrying Christabella.

Julie's eyes hardened.

"Then I'm coming too," she said.

"No." Xu Mo dismissed her flatly.

But she fell in step behind him anyway.

"I may not be as strong as you, but I won't be useless."

Jason rushed after them, reloading his pistol as he went.

"Count me in. If nothing else, I'll keep an eye on these two so they don't run."

Xu Mo didn't argue further.

Together, they stepped into the fog.
