Nightmare Freddy
Early the next morning, the group drove back home.
The expedition, originally meant to last a week, ended in just one day. On the road, the three cars separated—Carl took Lina and Jason back, Julie drove off alone, while Xu Mo headed for Harrisburg, the state capital.
There, he used the art of soul-stealing to acquire ownership of Silent Hill. If he was going to turn the place into a haunted town that welcomed tourists like an amusement attraction, the legal paperwork had to be in order.
He passed the details over to Dina. With her father being a state legislator, she could handle the logistics with ease.
Funding wasn't a problem either. Xu Mo had already robbed several congressmen of their hidden wealth, amassing more than two billion dollars—more than enough to cover the early stages of transforming Silent Hill.
Once arrangements were in place, Xu Mo opened a space gate and drove straight through, reappearing in the woods near his home before pulling into his driveway.
He had barely entered the house when someone knocked on the door.
It was Rebecca.
Her face was pale, her eyes bloodshot, a far cry from the lively young woman of just three days ago. As soon as she saw Xu Mo, she collapsed into his arms.
"Save me—I don't want to die. I can't die…"
Her voice was shaking, incoherent, laced with tears.
Xu Mo held her, speaking calmly. "Don't rush. Tell me slowly what happened."
But he already suspected. He could feel the trace of resentment clinging to her—it had to be the same evil spirit that killed her husband.
Inside, Rebecca recounted her ordeal between sobs.
After being taken in by the police, she was released the next day once her statement was recorded. The higher-ups quickly suppressed the case, labeling it a "strange incident."
But that was when her nightmare truly began.
Too afraid to return home, Rebecca stayed at a nearby hotel. She struggled to sleep until exhaustion finally overcame her. Half-dreaming, she felt herself being chased by a hideous demon. When she woke, she thought it had only been a nightmare—until she noticed her pajamas torn in the same places where the demon's claws had slashed her in the dream.
The next day, doctors diagnosed her with stress and prescribed sleep aids. But when she took them and drifted off again, the same nightmare returned. She woke before the killing blow, only to discover fresh wounds on her hand exactly as they had appeared in the dream.
Her husband had died the same way.
Terrified, Rebecca forced herself to stay awake for over forty hours. But her body and mind were breaking. She had nowhere else to turn.
When she saw Xu Mo, she begged him for help.
Xu Mo's expression sharpened. "Freddy?"
The description fit perfectly—the dream-killer from A Nightmare on Elm Street. Judging by her husband's wounds and her own experience, the culprit was most likely Freddy Krueger.
And in this world, haunted by entities from Silent Hill and The Grudge, Freddy's presence was hardly surprising.
Xu Mo almost smiled. Another evil spirit meant more points for him.
He rested a hand on Rebecca's shoulder. Under his will, the resentment clinging to her bled away into his own body.
"I hope this Freddy is worth something," he muttered.
His last hunt in Silent Hill had only earned a little over four hundred thousand points, most of it from the phantom of the evil god. But compared to the billions of points he had just spent, it was a drop in the ocean. Seeds of plant life alone cost tens of millions, while the rarest ones soared into the hundreds of millions.
Treasures that accelerated growth devoured even more.
As Rebecca calmed under his power, Xu Mo reassured her. "Stay here tonight. Don't worry—that thing won't dare come near."
Her breathing steadied, and she managed a shaky smile. Yet after a long silence, she touched his cheek.
"No… I should leave. Ordinary people like me can't fight these things. Staying here will only bring you trouble."
She rose to leave, but Xu Mo saw through her intent immediately.
"Relax. I can handle it."
He waved his hand. A blanket lifted into the air, wrapping Rebecca gently and carrying her straight into the bedroom.
Her eyes widened in shock at the display of magic, her disbelief plain on her face.
