Chapter 26 - She Looks Happy

Lina's Point of View: The Bridal Suite, Two Hours Later

The change of clothes takes place in a suite with a view of the whole Napa Valley. Evie helps me out of the wedding dress with care, as if it were something sacred. The dress is put on a mannequin to be kept forever, a monument to a lie.

Celestine, the wedding planner, points to a rack of choices and says, "You need something that lets you move." "You'll be dancing, saying hello to guests, and moving around. The second dress should be more elegant but also more... free."

I choose a champagne silk gown that is simple but deadly. It is sleek, flows, and looks more grown-up than the wedding dress. I feel a little more like myself when I wear it because it has a low back and a high slit. A little less like a princess from a fairy tale and a little more like a woman at a party.
