Chapter 284: The Thieves
Just as Diancie and the Carbink were heading towards Santalune City, two figures appeared in the sky. One was a man, dressed as a ninja, carried by two Ninjask, while the other was a flamboyant red-haired woman carried by a Salamence.
"You really are persistent, Riot. I told you, Diancie is my prey," the woman said, looking at the ninja opposite her.
"Merilyn, it's not like you want it and I have to back out. Whoever gets it first gets it!" Riot said in a low voice.
Then, the Ninjask quickly descended, carrying Riot towards Diancie. Merilyn naturally wouldn't let him get there first, and Salamence also shot straight towards Diancie. Just as the two were about to reach Diancie, they simultaneously sent out their Pokémon: a Greninja and a Delphox.
As soon as Delphox landed, the tip of the branch in its right hand ignited, tracing a circle in the air before unleashing a Flamethrower straight at the three Carbink. Meanwhile, Greninja, taking advantage of the moment the Carbink were attacked, extended its tongue from its neck and shot it towards Diancie, binding her body before retracting and pulling her towards it.
Diancie and the three Carbink were completely unprepared for this outcome. The three Carbink were immediately knocked to the ground by the Flamethrower, while Diancie was bound by Greninja's tongue. Everything happened in an instant, giving them no time to react.
"Princess! You guys! Let the princess go!"
Although the Carbink were knocked to the ground by the Flamethrower, they were elite among the Carbink, and their Rock/Fairy-type attributes gave them resistance to Fire-type attacks. However, seeing Diancie being captured, the Carbink were enraged!
Three Stone Edge attacks burst forth from the ground, heading towards Greninja and Delphox. Greninja and Delphox immediately dodged, avoiding the attacks. However, they hadn't anticipated the decisiveness of the Carbink.
Two Carbink shot directly towards Greninja and Delphox, and just as they approached, blinding white light erupted from their bodies. Two deafening explosions rang out in that instant. The Carbink unleashed their Explosion attack, and Greninja and Delphox, unable to withstand the intense impact, collapsed along with the two Carbink, losing their ability to battle.
"Princess, run! Leave this to me!" the remaining Carbink shouted. At the same time, it charged towards Riot and Merilyn, blinding white light erupting from its body.
"A bunch of lunatics!" Riot and Merilyn shouted in unison. The Ninjask and Salamence instantly soared into the air, creating distance between themselves and the Carbink.
"Dace!" Diancie cried out in grief and anger, finally free from the entanglement.
"Princess! Run!" the Carbink named Dace cried out loudly.
Diancie suppressed her grief, bringing her hands close to her head and forming a pink energy between them. This compressed the carbon in the air, creating a Diamond Storm that formed out of thin air. The Diamond Storm began to spin rapidly, shooting straight towards Riot and Merilyn.
She was the princess of the Diamond Domain; she couldn't stand by and watch her subjects fall before her eyes!
"Retreat for now." Riot and Merilyn decisively recalled Greninja and Delphox, while the Ninjask and Salamence immediately carried the two away, creating distance to avoid Diancie's Diamond Storm.
Having temporarily dispersed Riot and Merilyn, Carbink, having made up its mind, used its Stone Edge attack to keep Diancie at bay. It earnestly said, "Princess, their target is you, so you mustn't fall into their hands. The human city is not far ahead; go there, and they won't dare to act recklessly in it. Their target isn't me, so don't worry about us, hurry!"
Diancie shook her head, her hands once more near her head, and another Diamond Storm formed. Diancie said, "I won't leave. I am the princess of the Diamond Domain; protecting my subjects is my duty!"
With that, the Diamond Storm reformed, but before it could be unleashed, it disintegrated into pink stardust, scattering in the air. Seeing that Diancie's Diamond Storm hadn't been used, Riot and Merilyn immediately understood: Diancie's control over her moves was completely unstable; the previous Diamond Storm was merely an accidental occurrence.
Understanding this, Riot and Merilyn calmed down. The two exchanged a glance, instantly understanding each other's meaning: Putting aside all other grudges, taking down Diancie was the priority!
Diancie watched the Diamond Storm dissipate in the air, her arms falling limply to her sides: How could this happen? Hadn't she already succeeded?
Riot and Merilyn commanded Ninjask and Salamence to attack Diancie. Carbink used Gravity to pull the three Pokémon to the ground. Seeing the dazed Diancie, Carbink disregarded the difference in status and unleashed a Stone Edge attack, instantly sending Diancie flying.
"Run! Princess!" Carbink cried out its last words, a blinding white light erupting from its body, followed by a deafening explosion.
Diancie, seeing the wall created by the Stone Edge and hearing Carbink's subsequent words, fought back tears and ran towards Santalune City.
Without Carbink's control, the wall created by the Stone Edge gradually crumbled, dissipating into energy and revealing the situation in the arena. With their experience, Riot and Merilyn were unlikely to fall for the trap again. Their protective shield completely negated the damage from the Explosion, leaving them unharmed.
"Damn it, what an annoying bunch!" Merilyn kicked the incapacitated Carbink, and Salamence immediately carried Merilyn towards Diancie.
"The alliance is disbanded. Whoever gets Diancie now will have to prove themselves," Riot said. The two Ninjask quickly pursued Diancie with Riot.
Even though it was Santalune City, a city inhabited by humans, the law was meaningless to these two master thieves. They were willing to risk everything to capture Diancie!
