Pauline's POV
Daisy stared at me with guilt written all over her face, already preparing whatever excuse she thought might save her. Lem just avoided my gaze entirely, which was honestly worse.
I pressed my fingers against my temples, feeling a headache building. "You're literally blind," I muttered under my breath, unable to hold back my frustration. "What exactly are you looking away from?"
Lem scratched the back of his neck awkwardly and cleared his throat, but before I could decide which one of them deserved to be strangled first, tiny hands pressed against my legs.
Echo wrapped her arms around me, and despite everything, my heart immediately softened. But then she peeked around me, her bright eyes landing on Zion and Windsor with unmistakable curiosity.
"Ooh! Pretty!" she squealed with pure delight, bouncing slightly as she looked between them.
