Seeing Hayashi Maki's shameless message, Yukinoshita Yukino blushed just as expected.
"What do you mean 'only with a thick skin can I kiss you'?"
Did he have to be that impatient with her? He didn't even want to go through a normal dating process—just straight to getting close?
Demon Lord: "Yukino-chan, why are you sitting under the tree alone? No friends?"
Another rude text.
Grinding her teeth, Yukino shot a glare toward his window and replied quickly:
Yukinoshita Yukino: "How do you know I don't? Maybe I even have a boyfriend."
Demon Lord: "Yeah—me."
Yukinoshita Yukino: "You are not. I mean someone else—maybe even more handsome than you."
Demon Lord: "But Haruno said you don't like pretty boys—especially the two-timing 'air-conditioner' type."
"And if any other guy dares approach you, I'll take him out."
Yukino flushed, her feelings a knot.
"Why are you so overbearing? If a boy comes up to talk, you'll 'take him out' too?"
Demon Lord: "Depends. If it's just normal conversation or a greeting, I won't move. If he's leering at you, I might make him unlucky for a while."
Yukinoshita Yukino: "You're telling me this outright? Aren't you afraid I'll find an angel, make friends, and have her punish you?"
Demon Lord: "If you can bear to see me die, I've got no objections."
Yukinoshita Yukino: "Can you stop saying 'die' all the time? Life is precious. Try being kind."
Demon Lord: "You claimed you had another boyfriend—I can't be kind about that. Unless you say you're mine, then I'll play along."
Yukinoshita Yukino: "Keep dreaming. I'm not yours… But I don't have any other boyfriend. Happy now?"
Demon Lord: "Not quite. If you let me hold you to sleep tonight, then maybe I'll be comfortable."
Yukinoshita Yukino: "In your dreams, pervert!"
Seeing the second miss slightly flustered and angry only delighted Hayashi Maki. Teasing her felt great.
Demon Lord: "Whether I'm dreaming or not, you know best, don't you, Yukino-chan? I'm a man of my word."
"By the way, isn't there an angel in your class? Why haven't you made a move? You can't bear to sic her on me, right?"
Yukino froze at that.
"There's an angel in my class? A real angel? The kind who can deal with you?"
Demon Lord: "A real one, with divine power. Whether she can handle me—I don't know; I've never fought an angel."
"You know me—I may be a demon, but I'm easy to please. I just want a lazy life. If you'd let me hold you tonight, that'd be perfect."
At that, Yukino looked up toward his window—and locked eyes with him. The heat and gentleness there set her heart thumping and her cheeks burning.
Ugh, this infuriating guy—flirting out of nowhere. If he likes her, why does he keep bullying her?
Girls are emotional creatures; she could feel whether someone liked her. And as awful as Hayashi Maki was—always doing that—she could feel his passion for her.
After a moment, she typed again:
Yukinoshita Yukino: "Don't you dare come. I'll lock the door. If you try, stun gun and pepper spray are waiting!"
Demon Lord: "You think those can stop me?"
Yukinoshita Yukino: "Hmph, I'm going to befriend that angel right now. I'll have her punish you, you big bully! So tell me: who's the angel?"
Demon Lord: "Come on, you're not seriously asking me which one's the angel so you can deal with me."
Yukinoshita Yukino: "So you are scared. Don't touch me again—if the angel sees, she'll punish you!"
Demon Lord: "Not scared at all. It's the very well-endowed girl with silver hair next to you—Raphiel, I think. A strong angel."
Raphiel?
Yukino instinctively glanced at the cute girl napping beside her. Her gaze slid to the rounded curves that strained the uniform, and she immediately felt annoyed.
That damn demon—was his focus just on her figure? Was hers that bad?
He touched her all the time, after all…
So—did his "method" actually work?
The more she thought about it, the more tangled she felt.
"Um, Yukinoshita, is something wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?" Raphiel, feeling Yukino's stare, fidgeted and asked.
Yukino bit her lip and leaned in despite herself. "Shiraha-san… how did you, um, grow there? Any tips?"
"There?" Shiraha Raphiel Ainsworth followed Yukino's gaze to her chest and blushed. "I… don't know. Honestly, it's a pain. The bras I just bought are already too small, so I'm scared to exercise too hard. I came in last on the 100-meter dash."
Yukino turned to stone.
Is that even possible? I'm still trying to grow, and you're complaining? And your new bras are already too small?
Just how good was her figure?
Wilting under Yukino's aggrieved stare, Raphiel laughed awkwardly. She didn't even know why she was talking about something so intimate with someone she barely knew.
Suddenly, Raphiel seemed to notice something and looked at Yukino in surprise. "Y-Yukinoshita, did something happen recently? Like… a major injury?"
"Eh? Yes—on the first day of school I was hit by a car. I just got discharged. Why do you ask, Shiraha?"
Yukino tensed. Had Raphiel noticed traces of that scoundrel Hayashi Maki—and was planning to eliminate him? She might talk big about "punishing" him, but the thought of it actually happening made her chest ache so badly she could hardly breathe.
Seeing Yukino's anxiety, Raphiel waved her hands. "No, no—it's just… My ancestors were Shrine Maidens. I can see certain… special things. Do you believe me?"
She probed gently; if Yukino didn't, she would drop it. As an angel, helping the weak and upholding justice was her duty—but Raphiel had realized earlier than Gabriel how complicated humans were, so she had no plans to interfere. She was here to have fun—ahem, to train—not to get sent back to boring Heaven right away.
Yukino nodded earnestly. "I believe you, Shiraha. So… could you tell me what you see?"
Raphiel, touched by her sincerity, nodded back. "Of course. Since you're willing to believe me, I'll tell you."
"Yukinoshita, there's a trace of a technique on you."
"The person who used it took your injury and your pain onto themselves. That's why you're up and about now."
After all, there's no holy healing magic in the human world—being able to use a damage-transfer technique that lets someone else bear it is already impressive.
