For several hours, Leilani slipped in and out of consciousness, and by the time she finally came to, she peeled her eyes open slowly, looked up at me with grateful gleaming eyes and murmured; "Thank you very much, Jay."
Hearing her… seeing her smile… immediately made my chest feel lighter. I smiled softly at her whilst leaning in to pat her now matted hair; But as soon as my skin accidentally grazed against hers, I froze.
Because she was as cold as ice.
So cold, it sent chills down my body.
My widened eyes snagged on hers, confusion creasing my eyebrows when she didn't even seem like she was in any form of discomfort. She simply smiled at me again, forcing me to carefully ask;
"Are you okay, Leilani?"
"Yes, I am. Thank you for staying by my side." She answered softly, then looking at the door, she asked; "Where is Maya?"
I sighed. "She went to get us something to eat." I said, slowly taking her hands in mine despite the freezing temperature.
