Cherreads

Chapter 7 - chapter 07:

Sajid was listening to all the hushed voices talking about whether the ceremony had been completed successfully or not. That's why he fainted. Sajid was scared of what they would do to him, and that's why he didn't take the risk and abruptly stood up to tell others that he was fine.

The villagers and priestesses, seeing Sajid back up, released a sigh of relief. They thought that being unprosperous and weak made him faint since the power invading his body was too strong. Now that he had awoken, and it looks to be okay, it means the power did bind him, and they didn't have to keep an eye on him anymore.

Ananya came close to him and told him that the ceremony is complete, and from now on, he is a member of the village. She also told him that the village name is Ashganj. She also forbade him from ever seeking out the village in public and speaking its name cautiously because the village's name itself has powers.

She then told him to get rest in Rajesh's hut, and from now on, this will be his new home. He will be called upon for his first mission very quickly. The ceremony was over, and all the people dispersed. Only Sajid and Rajesh remained. Rajesh came to him and tried to talk to him, but no words came out of his throat. In the end, the only thing Rajesh said was sorry and then left.

Sajid thought that he was probably feeling guilty for binding him with this place. But Rajesh didn't know that the oath did not affect him. Sajid said nothing and left for his hut. Sajid took a deep breath and went inside his hut. Sajid looked at his new home gloomily. All this time being inside a time loop, and after being out of the time loop, he again found himself bound in this stupid village. Sajid cursed his powerlessness and naivety. He vowed to himself never to trust blindly and always be cautious.

Now that he had some free time, he checked his body and did not find anything unusual. He then tried to meditate and tried to look for something new and foreign inside his body. He also found nothing. Sajid released a sigh of relief. That means the oath, or as he liked to call it, the curse, did not have any effect on him. Because his soul already bears an incredibly powerful curse.

Sajid decided that now that they think they have a curse on him, they are less likely to suspect him, and he can ask questions that had been burning him from the inside. He also wanted to get a weapon to practise with and become proficient with it as soon as possible. Sajid decided to meditate to pass the time until his very first mission would be assigned. Sajid also decided that since the curse has no hold on him, he will try to gather as much info from these people as possible, including weapon arts & mysticism. Then he will try to learn about the strange rules and why it has been placed.

Getting all these answers from them might take quite a bit of time. But Sajid decided that it was worth the wait. After all, what he needed now the most was knowledge. He also decided to target Rajesh, and he will try to get as close to him as possible. Since the priestess looked like a tough nut to crack. But Rajesh seemed a bit more mild compared to her and a bit more compassionate.

Sajid was meditating, and it was soon noon. He was called into the strange-looking temple he had seen previously and told to wait. Sajid did as he was told and waited outside the gates. Then Annaya came and told him to get inside the gates of the temple. The same strange feeling envelopled Sajid once again if he was being watched by some ancient deties, and even his very being was being analyzed.

Then he saw the strange-looking patterns and murals again. The murals were perhaps describing a great storm and a world-shattering cataclysmic event. Sajid could not look at the mural properly as Annaya was calling him to get even deeper. There, he saw the strange symbols and the altars.

Standing on the altar, Annaya smiled at him. The smile looked more evil than friendly. She then proceeds to introduce this place as the sacred altar for communicating with the Jinn of the Ravenous, also known as Rahamut. She said that the village is blessed by the jinn, and all the strange restrictions where the ceremony was held were because of the Jinn. She also said that all the villagers' soul belongs to the jinn and he protects this village.

The strange magical language that she had been using was the language of the Jinns. The language of the Jinns has magical power imbued in it. Then she proceeds to tell that for the Jinn to provide protection for the village and to survive in the forest of the unknown, they had to sacrifice some souls for the jinn monthly. The Jinn requires a Human sacrifice monthly.

It is the hunter's job to gather the sacrifice of the humans. He was selected to be this month's sacrifice. But then Rajesh begged her to leave Sajid be, and Sajid himself asked to live in this village, so she decided not to kill him as a sacrifice. Now, as a hunter, it is Sajid's duty to capture a sacrifice for the village by the end of this month, or the consequences would be severe.

She then proceeds to tell him and stands at the altar. Sajid did as he was told. Then told him to chant with him in the language of the Jinn. Sajid was mentally scarred. Because his soul did not bear the curse mark like the other villagers, and if the Jinn finds out that he is a dead being and how he is in this village, this will make his life harder.
