Chapter 4 - The Weapon of the Unbound

The night the Order came, the sky above the Rift burned with unnatural light.

Oluwa stood alone on the highest ridge, the dual energies restless beneath his skin. Frost crept across the stones at his left foot. Lava hissed and bubbled where his right foot touched the earth. In the distance, dark shapes moved through the mist—dozens of cloaked figures carrying strange devices that glowed with a sickly green light. At their center floated a long, black staff carved with symbols older than the mountains themselves.

The ancient weapon.

Ayo had delivered the warning, and the villagers had fled deeper into the hills. Only Oluwa remained. The living seal. The prisoner who could not run.

As the Order approached, the titans inside him stirred with sudden hunger.

"They bring the key," Fyragos growled, voice thick with excitement. "Let them open the door. Let me out."

"Foolish mortals," Cryona whispered. "They will free us both… and then they will freeze and burn with the rest of the world."

Oluwa clenched his fists until ice cracked and fire sparked between his fingers. "Not while I still stand."

The leader of the Order stepped forward, raising the black staff. Its tip pulsed with the same dual energy that lived in Oluwa's veins—half frozen light, half molten glow. When the man spoke, his voice carried easily across the Rift.

"Icevolcanoman. Vessel of the Titans. You were never meant to carry this burden alone. Surrender the seal, and we will end your suffering. Resist… and we will break you open."

Oluwa answered with action.

He slammed both hands into the ground.

A wave of absolute cold exploded from his left side, racing across the stone and freezing the front ranks of the Order in mid-step. At the same moment, a river of liquid fire erupted from his right, melting the frozen figures into steaming black glass. Screams rose and died in the same breath.

But the leader did not fall.

He drove the ancient staff into the earth. A shockwave of green light burst outward, slamming into Oluwa and hurling him backward. The dual energies inside him screamed in pain. For a moment the frost and fire faltered, and the titans' voices grew deafening.

"You cannot win," Fyragos roared. "Give us control!"

"Let go," Cryona hissed. "Let us finish this."

Oluwa staggered to his feet, blood running from his nose—half ice crystals, half boiling droplets. The staff's power was tearing at the seal itself, trying to pry open the prison that was his body.

He looked down at his hands. One blue-white with frost. One glowing red with flame.

Then he did something he had never dared before.

He forced the two powers to meet.

Ice and fire collided inside his chest with a sound like a mountain splitting. A sphere of swirling blue and red energy formed between his palms—neither pure frost nor pure flame, but something new. Something balanced. Something the titans had never allowed.

Oluwa raised the sphere high and hurled it at the staff.

The explosion lit the entire Rift. The black weapon cracked down its length with a sound like shattering bone. The green light died. The leader of the Order staggered back, cloak scorched and frozen in the same instant, eyes wide with shock.

"Impossible…" he whispered.

Oluwa stepped forward through the rising steam, eyes burning with twin sparks. His voice, when it came, carried both the cold of glaciers and the heat of volcanoes.

"The seal still holds."

The remaining members of the Order turned and fled into the darkness, dragging their wounded leader with them. The broken staff lay smoking on the ground, its power spent.

But deep inside Oluwa's mind, the titans were no longer laughing.

They were afraid.

And far below, in the heart of the Rift, the shattered Crystal of Dual Elements pulsed brighter than it had in centuries—almost as if it were watching… and waiting.

The first true battle had been won.

The war for the world's balance had only just begun.
