The Quiet Before the Door
The corridor to Victors chambers was really long and not very bright. It had sconces on the walls that had a low steady blue fire burning in them. The warmth from the fire did not do much to warm up the stone walls. You could hear the sound of footsteps echoing through the hallway it was, like a drumbeat. The hallway was very quiet.
He walked slowly he was calm as always his face was gentle. He had a little smile on his lips. The wind from the evening was still with him, from the garden it was pulling lightly at his coat. It smelled like wet grass and the cold of autumn.
Two guards were standing at the turn of the hall. The guards noticed the man instantly. The guards posture became very stiff. The guards put their hands to their hearts. The guards bowed their heads.
Someone said "Lord Victor" in a soft voice. He sounded like he really looked up to Lord Victor.
