The dungeon spat him out into the night.
Aric stood at the mouth of a cave, chains clattering at his wrists. The air outside was cold, the moon swollen and red above the horizon.
Before him lay a village. Or what remained of it.
The houses were little more than burned husks. Blackened beams jutted from the earth like ribs of a corpse. Smoke drifted in the air, carrying the acrid stench of ash.
Aric walked down the slope, boots crunching on brittle grass. His steps echoed in the emptiness.
Then he saw them. Survivors.
Hollow-eyed men and women huddled in the ruins, dressed in rags, their faces smeared with soot. A child pointed at him, whispering to her mother. The woman's face twisted—not in relief, but in hatred.
"It's him," she hissed. "The false Savior."
The word spread like fire. "Murderer." "Tyrant." "He let us burn."
Aric froze. These were the same people who once wept at his feet, who kissed his hands and called him Deliverer. Now their eyes spat venom.
The old Aric might have defended himself. Might have begged them to listen. Might have carried their pain as his own.
But that man was dead.
He raised his hand. The system pulsed, and the Domination Aura flared. A wave of pressure rippled out, crushing the air itself. The villagers staggered back, choking, some collapsing to their knees.
"Call me what you will," Aric said, his voice low, cold. "But remember this night well. For when you speak my name again, it will not be in hatred. It will be in fear."
The huts around him cracked as if bowing to his will. Sparks caught in the dry ruins. Flames spread, licking the sky.
The people screamed.
Aric watched the fire take root, watched the night glow with destruction. His chest rose and fell with calm certainty. This was not chaos. This was his first throne.
The system whispered, satisfied.
> Achievement Unlocked: Throne of Ashes.
Territory Claimed. Influence +50. Skill Gained: Tyrant's Dominion.
Aric turned his back on the flames. The villagers wailed, cursed, begged. None of it mattered.
He had given them a savior once. They killed him.
Now, he would give them a tyrant.
