The Room of Requirement.

Once they'd roughly settled on his electives, Harry thanked Lucien and pushed himself up from the sofa, ready to leave.

He'd barely taken a step when he stopped again. He turned back, face twisting with embarrassment.

"Lucien… can I ask you one more thing?"

Lucien nodded.

Harry didn't speak right away. His fingers twisted together like he was trying to wring the words out. It took him a long moment before he managed a quiet, "The thing I'm about to ask… could you not tell anyone else?"

Lucien folded his hands and leaned back, a small smile tugging at his mouth.

"Of course. It stays between us."

Harry took a deep breath, like he was jumping off a cliff.

"I've been having these dreams lately," he said, voice low. "Really weird ones."

Lucien's eyebrows rose.

Dreams?

"In the dream," Harry went on, even quieter now, "I'm… a frog. No, a toad. And I'm sitting on an egg. Just… hatching it. The whole toad, just parked on top of this egg, not moving. Everything around me is pitch black. I can't see anything."

Lucien blinked. A toad. Sitting on an egg. Hatching it.

Harry looked at him anxiously, worry clear in his eyes.

"Lucien… am I under some kind of curse? Or some weird magic?"

There was real tension in his voice.

This term had been strangely peaceful—no dark wizards, no monsters, no one lurking in the shadows trying to kill him. The quiet had started to feel suspicious. And now these bizarre dreams kept coming, right after Professor Flitwick's lecture on curses in Defense class. Flitwick had mentioned that some curses didn't need physical contact. They could slip in through dreams and slowly erode someone's mind.

The more Harry thought about it, the more convinced he became that some dark wizard had him in their sights again.

Lucien didn't answer with words. He simply let his magic rise. A small black vortex spun to life in his pupils—Arcane Sight opening quietly.

He scanned Harry from head to toe.

No strange magical fluctuations. No lingering traces of Dark Magic. His circuits were clean and steady. Nothing was eating at him or interfering.

Just dreams? Or something deeper?

Lucien let the sight fade and fell into thought. Maybe he should dig into dream interpretation books. Wizards had studied that sort of thing.

Toad hatching an egg… what did that even mean? Gestation? Waiting? New life? And toads—ugly, cold, lurking in the dark?

The thoughts only lasted a second before something else clicked. The description felt oddly familiar.

Toad on an egg. Toad on an egg…

A sudden realization hit him.

Lucien's expression sharpened. He looked straight at Harry, voice serious.

"Have you had any other strange dreams lately? Like… turning into a chicken? Or a rooster?"

Harry's mouth opened slightly, confused. He had no idea why Lucien was asking that, but he tried to remember anyway. His eyes drifted up, brow furrowed like he was digging through dusty old memories.

After a long pause he answered, hesitant.

"I think… I did dream about being a chicken once. But a rooster? I'm not sure. Because in the dream—the chicken, I mean—there was this feeling like there was an egg inside its stomach?"

His voice got smaller with every word.

He sounded like he thought he was losing his mind. The dream had been just as ridiculous as the toad one. A big rooster with a bright red comb and long tail feathers… but somehow carrying an egg inside it?

Roosters didn't lay eggs. At least not in the Muggle world. Was there some magical rooster in the wizarding world that could?

Harry finished and stared at Lucien, waiting for judgment.

Lucien's eyes narrowed slightly. His gaze settled on the lightning scar half-hidden under Harry's messy hair.

Rooster with an egg. Toad hatching an egg.

Interesting.

Voldemort was trying to follow in his ancestor's footsteps—breeding another Basilisk.
