Chapter 273 - Demon King Balan

Two rows of black-armored knights stood silently on either side of the gate. Before Cheng Xiao could show his identification token, a woman veiled in black emerged from within.

"Welcome to the City of Slaughter," the woman's voice was pleasant and clear. She stepped aside before Cheng Xiao, gesturing for him to enter.

Cheng Xiao glanced at the woman and followed her slowly through the city gate. It was a world of black and red, filled with the aura of slaughter and death.

Cheng Xiao wasn't particularly interested in this kind of city, but the shadow soldiers lurking in the shadows watched with great interest.

"I am your guide. You can ask me anything you don't understand. I will answer all your questions within twelve hours. After twelve hours, this will be your living place, and you will become a member of the Killing City."

Cheng Xiao placed the bottom of the table, his gaze falling on the girl in black veil, and said calmly, "How many kings are there here?"

"Kings?" The girl in black veil was stunned for a moment, then shook her head. "I'm sorry I can't answer that question. It's not within the scope of my explanation."

Hearing this, Cheng Xiao knew in his heart that his intuition was correct. He then said, "Take me to the Hell Killing Arena."

"You know about the Hell Killing Arena?" The girl in black veil looked surprised and explained, "In the Killing City, ten people form a group to enter the Hell Killing Arena. In each battle, only one out of ten people can survive. Very few people can come out of the Killing Arena." "

In thousands of years, only eight people have made it out of the Killing Arena. Are you really planning to go?"

"Lead the way," Cheng Xiao said.

"Please follow me." The girl in black veiled stopped trying to persuade him, gestured for Cheng Xiao to follow, and then led him into the city.

Along the way, whether intentionally or unintentionally, the girl in black veiled walked ahead, her slender waist swaying in a sexy curve, which, combined with her tight-fitting uniform dress, made her quite alluring.

Behind the girl in black veiled, the Ice Emperor was whispering something to the Snow Emperor, but Cheng Xiao didn't pay attention. At this moment, all he could think about was how to kill the monarch. Now, with the power of the Snow Emperor and the Ice Emperor, it wasn't impossible to have an opportunity.

Just as Cheng Xiao was pondering this, the Ice Emperor and the Snow Emperor behind him noticed a bald man not far away, about to commit an indecent act against a slender woman. But as the burly man's eyes gleamed with lust, the woman swiftly pulled a dagger from her waist.

A cold glint flashed through the air. The bald man, who had intended to commit the crime, contracted his pupils, clutching his bleeding throat as he collapsed backward. He didn't even utter a scream before the seemingly frail woman slit his throat.

Staring in disbelief at this scene, Ice Empress gasped, covering her mouth in astonishment. With her strength, she could naturally discern the two individuals' abilities, yet this was precisely why she was so shocked.

The difference in their strength was no less than a thousand-year-old soul beast killing a ten-thousand-year-old soul beast—and not even a high-blooded one. This was truly astonishing for Ice Empress, a soul beast in human form.

"Hehe, in this City of Slaughter, never judge a book by its cover. In this City of Slaughter, the corpses of those who die because of underestimating others could fill an entire city," the woman in black veiled noticed Ice Empress's unusual expression and subconsciously explained.

  "Look, look! Newcomers!"

"I didn't expect such top-quality stuff this time. Look at that white-haired woman, if I could have her, I'd die for it."

"Hehe, I'm different from you. I like the green-haired one, but I don't want to die after just one time. I want to turn her into Bloody Mary and integrate her into my body."

As Cheng Xiao and his companions ventured deeper into the city, filthy words echoed from the nearby Fallen Ones, but after speaking, they fell silent.

Cheng Xiao didn't look. He trusted the Shadow Soldiers; human life was cheap in this place. If they died, they died. It was good practice for the Shadow Soldiers.

"My lord, we're almost at the inner city of the Killing Capital. You've just arrived in the Killing Capital, so my suggestion is..." The woman in black paused, then changed her words, "My lord, please follow me."

Led by the woman in black, Cheng Xiao saw a peculiar building. It was circular, or more accurately, an irregular cone, with the largest area at the bottom, narrowing towards the top.

This Hell Slaughter Arena was quite large, only slightly smaller than the Soul Arena in Heaven Dou City.

"To participate in the competition, I remember needing a Bloody Mary," Cheng Xiao said.

The woman in black veils looked at Cheng Xiao with some surprise, nodded, and said, "You're right. To participate in the Hell Slaughter Arena, you need a Bloody Mary. The blood can be yours or someone else's."

"Shadows, go get three Bloody Marys," Cheng Xiao said, his mind racing.

In an instant, dozens of shadows darted out. The shadows moved quickly, and in no time, they had gathered the Bloody Marys the monarch needed. As for the source of these Bloody Marys, that remained a mystery.

"Register, I'm in a hurry," Cheng Xiao gestured for the shadows to hand the Bloody Marys to the woman in black veils. The woman swallowed hard, took the identity token, and went to register.

Watching the woman in black veil depart, Cheng Xiao hesitated for a moment, then turned to Ice Emperor and Snow Emperor, saying, "Once you go in, just watch. I'll finish the battle as soon as possible; after all, our goal isn't the competition."

"Okay, then be careful." Ice Emperor nodded, taking Snow Emperor's cool, jade-like hand, and said with a grin, "If you're finished, those of us who signed the contract with you are finished too."

Cheng Xiao smiled and said, "Of course."

  ...

"Your Majesty, someone's here." The King of Slaughter knelt on one knee. Before him was an exceptionally large chair, inlaid with several blood-red skulls, strangely, burning with flames.

The humanoid creature addressed as "King" by the King of Slaughter slowly opened his eyes, his red-glowing eyes seeming to devour everything. He was none other than the Demon King Balan, known as the Hundred Flames King. He had

a blue demonic face and wore luxurious armor like royalty.

From the moment Demon King Balan arrived in the City of Slaughter, the sole ruler of the city changed. Tang Chen, possessed by the Crimson Nine-Headed Bat King, was naturally no match for the Demon King, and thus, he chose to submit to the king of the other world.

Demon King Balan remained silent, seemingly waiting for something. After a long while, he drew his sword. "The Demon King's Longsword."

At that moment, Demon King Balan raised the longsword with one hand, and surging magical power swept out, as if some terrifying being had descended.

  "Demon soldiers have been summoned."

  "Demon knights have been summoned."

  "Demon generals have been summoned."

With the activation of the skill, an army composed of demons appeared before Demon King Balan. They were all demons, belonging to Demon King Balan's Hundred Flames Legion.

The King of Slaughter could not hide his shock. From his perspective, there were probably more than a thousand soldiers gathered here, including many demon generals at the Title Douluo level!

  "Shadow Monarch, we meet again..."

  ...

The Slaughter City, the Hell Slaughter Arena.

"Who is he? Why can he use Soul Skills? This is unfair!"

"You bunch of idiots, didn't you all notice? He hasn't used his Martial Soul at all!"

"He didn't use his Martial Soul, but what are those shadowy soldiers? Could someone use Soul Skills without a Martial Soul?"

Just after Cheng Xiao finished a match, the Hell Slaughter Arena resumed. Since he couldn't participate consecutively, Cheng Xiao returned to his spectator seats after each match to wait for the next one.

However, this time, the contestant was a woman Cheng Xiao knew—Hu Liena, a member of the Golden Generation of the Spirit Hall.

Hu Liena stood in the arena, wielding two short swords about a foot long. Her beautiful eyes gleamed with an eerie light. In her eyes, these people were merely stepping stones to her strength.

As the Hell Slaughter Arena began, Hu Liena moved. The short swords she held seemed to have a mind of their own, each swing leaving streaks of blood.

  *Splat, splat...

  * Blood splattered, and corpses, eyes wide, fell vertically, their faces filled with resentment.

In just a few minutes, Hu Liena had dealt with all nine Fallen Ones, who quickly disintegrated after death.

  It was quite strange.

A one-against-nine scene was uncommon, but Hu Liena had accomplished this feat through her own strength. However, she had also suffered some minor injuries, but unsurprisingly, once she recovered, she would continue to participate in the Hell Slaughter Arena, relentlessly killing her opponents until she obtained the Killing God Domain that Bibi Dong had mentioned.

"What a terrifying woman, even more terrifying than that man who can use soul skills."

"Don't even mention it, her pants almost got wet when she passed by me."

Hu Liena's battle left a considerable number of Fallen Ones with the impression that she was not to be trifled with. Most of the Fallen Ones understood the difference in strength between them, so they obediently did not follow her.

But a few bolder Fallen Ones, relying on their own strength, secretly followed her.

As the saying goes, lust is a curse, but for the Fallen, it means nothing. How many who come to a place like the Killing City are truly innocent?

Besides, while Hu Liena is dangerous, she's not invincible. With enough numbers, there's a chance.

Watching Hu Liena leave, Cheng Xiao noticed that she glanced at him discreetly before she left. Clearly, she didn't expect him to be here.

"Shadows, follow her. There will be plenty of people for you to kill." Sensing the killing intent in the shadows' emotions, Cheng Xiao calmly gave the order.

The shadows quickly followed. They didn't reveal their true forms but slipped away as shadows, making travel much easier for them.

"You actually help others?" Ice Emperor looked at Cheng Xiao in surprise.

"It was nothing." Cheng Xiao said calmly, then stood up and walked towards the Hell Killing Arena. His match had begun again; he didn't need to lift a finger. The shadow soldiers would handle everything.

Upon hearing this, Ice Empress curled her lip and said nothing more. Snow Empress, however, was observing Cheng Xiao with great interest.

  Meanwhile,

Hu Liena, having left the Hell Slaughter Arena, clutched her left shoulder, blood seeping through her fingers. Her expression was calm; she seemed unconcerned about this minor injury.

Gripping her short sword tightly, Hu Liena walked slowly. As she reached a corner, a glance back revealed several Fallen Ones closely following her. Her keen intuition told her that these people seemed to be targeting her.

After a moment's thought, a disdainful smile appeared on Hu Liena's lips as she slowly walked into an empty alley.

The Fallen Ones following Hu Liena glared fiercely. Having been in the Slaughter City for so many years, how could they not know that this woman had discovered them?

But now, if they retreated, how could they survive in the Slaughter City?

The Fallen Ones exchanged glances and quickly headed into the alley, unaware that several tall, dark figures had appeared behind them. As

soon as they entered the alley, they saw Hu Liena sitting on a wooden crate, twirling a short sword in one hand.

A lewd glint appeared in their eyes, and they were about to take a few steps forward when suddenly a gust of cold wind swept over them, and the temperature in the alley seemed to drop considerably.

Hu Liena, sitting on the crate, was startled. She stared incredulously at the shadow soldiers who had appeared behind the Fallen Ones, her red lips slightly parted in astonishment.

The next moment, a shrill scream echoed from the alley.

Without any surprise, the Fallen Ones, unable to use their Martial Souls or Soul Skills, were all killed by the shadow soldiers. They died quickly, without even suffering torture; almost all of them were killed with a single blow.

After killing the Fallen Ones, the dozen or so shadow soldiers glanced at Hu Liena, then turned and disappeared from her sight.

"Wait!" Startled, Hu Liena jumped off the box and ran towards the alleyway exit. She had been so stunned that she hadn't even thanked them immediately!

After Hu Liena rushed out of the alley, the shadow soldiers were nowhere to be seen. Having completed their king's mission, the shadow soldiers didn't linger and quickly departed.

Hu Liena looked around dejectedly, but just then, the earth shook violently, as if something was approaching.

  Thump, thump, thump—

Hu Liena clearly saw a neat, dark army marching in the distance. But this wasn't a human army or a Soul Master army; it was the demon army of the Hundred Flame King, the Demon King Balan!

At that moment, the perceptive Hu Liena looked up at the sky. It was a black dot floating above.

The black dot slowly descended and landed on the ground in the distance. It emitted an ominous blue light, and its terrifying aura almost made Hu Liena unable to breathe. Its right hand gripped a black longsword whose shape was indistinguishable.

Seeing the Demon King's army, Hu Liena was startled. Almost instinctively, she turned and ran towards the Hell Slaughter Arena. She didn't know why, but she knew someone had saved her, and she couldn't just leave like that. At the very least, she had to inform them of the news.
