Alex's defiant answer was met with the sharp crack of Girard's whip.
The sound didn't scare Alex at all; it just made him angrier.
He shouted back, his voice raw, "Damn it! I already told you, it wasn't me! If you dare to keep hitting me, just wait until I get out, I swear I'll end you!"
Girard was furious, his grip tightening on the whip as he prepared to strike again.
But before he could, a nimble figure darted forward.
It was Nevaeh. She grabbed Alex's collar, her knuckles white, and yanked him forward.
Her eyes burned with a fierce, deadly intensity as she glared at him.
Gritting her teeth, she spat each word out with pure venom, "On August 25th, the one who drove the car and killed my grandmother… was it you?"
Alex just shot her a dismissive glance, not even bothering to respond. It was like he didn't see her as any kind of threat.
His arrogance sent a fresh wave of rage through Nevaeh.
