Chapter 94 - Demonic Possession?

"Yes…It seems that way…" Arthur confirmed.

"Then…isn't something possessing him?" Major blurted.

The enforcers looked at with dumbfounded eyes.

"Possessed?" Harvey repeated.

"Yeah…?" Major stood up. "Isn't that the most plausible? The lieutenant general wouldn't just attack his friends out of nowhere and he has the aura of the demon…and besides, can we really keep possession out of the question with what has been happening these past few days?"

"I guess you're right…" Harvey stroked his chin.

"Great." Amelia turned around. "Then, I'll go back to sleeping."

"Wait." Arthur pulled her by the collar.

Amelia tried to shake him off but Arthur's strength was too great for her. Eventually, she stopped and turned around.

"What do need from me now…?"

"Do you know any spell that can fix him?" Major asked.

Amelia stared at Matthew's body." I mean…there is a spell which expels excess chaos from the body…"

"Then, try it." Arthur urged.

Amelia blinked at her captain and sighed. She approached Matthew's body and lazily stretched out her hand. Her eyes sparked with blue light as a spell covered Matthew's body. Geometric patterns with constellation like stripes coiled around his body. His body glowed brightly and his mouth and eyes released pure light. He began reacting violently, thrashing and crashing the ground as he somehow created a dark afterimage.

But it wasn't an afterimage…

His body burst with the chaotic dark aura and suddenly, something flew out of him. All the enforcers present lifted their heads and saw a Ghost-like skeleton covered in rags and without a lower body floating in the air. Without waiting another second, the ghost dipped back into the abyss. The darkness rippled as it entered – the enforcers being dumbfounded.

"What the fuck?" Arthur blurted.

Right then, Matthew gasped and sat up.

"W-What? Huh?"

He looked around in confusion as Amelia stood up.

"Can I leave now?" She asked.

"Of course." Arthur replied.

She headed off without another word, preparing to doze off until another fragment spawned. Arthur then, locked eyes with Major.

"…You can go too." Arthur stated.

"Thanks, lieutenant general." Major bowed, respectfully before returning.

Arthur trailed him for a while with his eyes before snapping back toe Matthew.

"How are you feeling, you joke of a lieutenant general?"

Matthew snapped around. "Huh? Arthur? Where's Josh and Nolan?"

"You sent them to the hospital." Arthur scowled.

"I sent them…to the hospital?" Matthew clutched his head.

Arthur heaved a sigh, not wanting to talk anymore. He ordered some of the nearby enforcers to take Matthew to the paramedic's tent. The enforcers followed his command without hesitation, carrying Matthew by the shoulders. As they left, Arthur crossed his arms.

'We need to be more careful around here…possession is also a problem now…such a headache.'

He felt unease rise in his heart as he rotated around, heading towards the camp. Harvey and Maple plus the other enforcers also followed, moving away from the abyss.

'I need to inform the supreme commander and generals of this…nobody should go near the abyss anymore…'

The enforcers behind him scattered except for Harvey and Maple. He halted where Nyx was sleeping. He tapped on her shoulder, awakening her.

"Supreme commander."

Nyx blinked. "Go tell the generals. I don't want to hear it."

Then, she went right back to sleep. Arthur stared at her – dumbfounded.

'Has the forbidden really taken that much of a toll on her…?'

He shook his head and searched for the generals. Then, he remembered something. He spun his head back and said to Harvey in a solemn tone.

"Harvey, could you check on the UEOC enforcers?"

"Sure thing." Harvey replied.

"By the way, have your enforcers been fully trained?" Arthur asked.

Harvey smirked. "Yeah, I made them into real enforcers."

"Good." Arthur muttered under his breath as he spun around. "I hope it's that way…I don't want to lose anyone anymore."

Then, suddenly, Maple appeared beside him.

"What are you muttering about?" She asked.

Arthur's heart skipped a beat. "N-Nothing!"

"If you say so…" Maple peered forward.

The two then, started looking for the generals.

 ***

Night soon arrived. The full moon shone bright in the clear sky as the enforcers prepared to sleep. They already had dinner and Arthur had informed the generals of the possession which caused them to restrict anyone from going close to the abyss. But even at night, the enforcers couldn't sleep properly because of the inhumane amount of chaos surrounding them.

The leaves rustled quietly as the wind brushed past them. The surroundings became eerily quiet. Nyx and Amelia were sleeping on chairs in the middle of camp while wearing blankets. In the Abyss, the darkness rippled once more as multiple ghosts escaped it. They flew through the camp, seizing this chance to enter the enforcers bodies. Nyx woke up lazily, having sensed something pass by.

'Is it another Chaos fragment…?'

They next few seconds went by in silence. When Nyx was about to go back to sleep, a scream rang out in the camp.

"AHHHHH!!!"

She snapped her head around as that scream in itself woke the entire camp. She stood up, knocking the chair and her blanket down. Using her power, she switched her vision to inside the darkness of the tent. With her eyes being able to pierce the darkness, she saw an enforcer piercing another's heart. Switching multiple times, she saw the same thing.

'Another possession!'

She used the darkness to bind the ones who were possessed by sensing their dark aura. Then, she dragged them outside. Harvey was carried out of the tent by Arthur with a would on his side. He pressed a hand to his side, blood seeping through his fingers. Arthur snapped his fingers, lighting up the sky with a star. Among the possessed he could see Maple fighting against her restraints.

"Damn it all the hell." He cursed.

As he approached Nyx, the enforcers began carrying out their wounded comrades. The medics immediately began preparing emergency treatment as Nyx locked eyes with Arthur.

"We're getting out of here first thing in the morning."
