"Chain her tighter!" Kael barked, his voice echoing off the stone walls. "She's a threat to every living soul in this pack. You saw what she did to Elira."
The guards obeyed immediately, though their hands shook as they fastened the iron cuffs around Liora's wrists. The sound of metal clinking filled the chamber, heavy, final. But Kael's command didn't ease the unease pressing down on everyone.
Gonzalo stood in the shadows of the upper hall, jaw tight, heart pounding so loud he could barely hear the rest of Kael's orders. He couldn't stay still. Every muscle in him screamed to move, to go to her. He didn't care that Kael had forbidden it. He didn't care that half the pack believed she'd turned into something dangerous. All he could see, in his mind, was the way she'd looked when she fell, eyes wide with confusion, fear, and something else he couldn't name.
He slipped through the corridor.
