Chapter 8 - The Man of Justice and Law

How would he get out of this place? He was not so sure.

What they believed to be the real escape from this place died again, and such a possibility was by being a gloomer.

Which, if speaking correctly, neither Joren nor others could certainly say he was in fact a gloomer.

Just dropping into the dreadful world didn't mean that you would be bestowed with the horrid curse of this gloomy world.

"So basically, he's not one of us." said Marti.

The cook folded his hand and remarked.

"You sound like a racist."

The girl retorted back.

"I'm not! I'm saying. How did you die?"

Joren had stayed in the void for a prolonged time, accompanied by the sword and a few memories that lodged in his mind.

He had long forgotten how he had died. Who killed him? Did he commit suicide, or was it someone who killed him?

Perchance, a natural death.

Whichever one of these, it didn't matter and the only thing he knew was that he died and the end of the tale.

"Shouldn't you have been teleported into this world instantly?"

Which didn't happen. It was a different place he entered; an unexplainable error in the system of the world must have sent him to that dark void.

"How strange, a dark world… This is my first time hearing it in one thousand, four hundred, and fifty years."

Joren gave Marti a strange look. From his point of view, the girl was no more than sixteen but her original age was far beyond that.

She's basically an old crone, except she was childish and had the same appearance as she came to this world.

There was a small hint of surprise in Joren's face, which Marti had captured through her eyes. It was only her illusion.

She chuckled arrogantly.

"Don't be delusional; I'm older than you are, alright."

She tried to imitate a commanding voice, forgetting what happened a while ago. She was weak, still stuck within the beginner stage.

One more problem with people of the gloomy world was that they could turn into monsters; if someone became depressed and drenched in despair, they would turn into monsters.

Perhaps, the giant bears he had killed were once souls of humans or any other intellectual beings.

The despair is mostly induced by staying within one stage and being unable to move up to the next level.

A few, like Marti, had accepted their fate as being in the lowlife beginner stage and well… it worked for them.

But for the majority, it wasn't the case.

'She's lucky enough to live this long.'

Joren thought, but that luck was never considered a boon in Marti's eyes but an unwanted curse that no one has ever broken.

Before there could be a long and lengthy conversation, Joren felt a strong sense of power near him.

"I heard someone caused a commotion in the city."

The man was clad in armor; it was white and painted with lacquer, which made it shine. The strong faith in the law was embellished on his armor.

His eyes were white crystal and golden, and his pale face was the beauty of the world itself. The man had long, silky white hair and a glazing smile on his face.

With his velvety voice, he asked.

"Will someone say who reported it?"

The cook anxiously whispered to the Morian; somewhere deep in his heart he admired the person standing inside the shop. It was honored to have him even place a foot in and the shop will be blessed.

Even the proud Marti kept her mouth shut. No one that did criminal things wanted to face this man.

Not because he was cruel; it was because of those long lectures. Not even clans' members wanted to challenge him.

"Not sure, maybe a person from the crowd." Morian whispered.

Galrian, the knight of justice, glanced around to inspect the place. He found nothing suspicious until his eyes landed on the Joren, clearly not from this place.

He focused on him as if his eyes were blurry, which clearly they weren't.

The knight of justice tried to see through him. A member of Asria in such a place and no commotion—it was unheard of.

Galrian was no man who jumped up to a hasty conclusion. He gauged the situation well.

Indeed, he himself couldn't detect anything special from Joren.

'How could a clan accept a person with no power.'

And then it was out… the book of the Truth and Law.

"Hey, listen, Sir Galrian." The worried Marti shouted.

However, the book was out. It was unusual of Galrian to bring out the book of truth and law when there hadn't been an acute case.

The book soared a little higher in the air and the pages flipped open on empty pages; words began to appear.

It began to reveal a succinct answer to Galrian about this man's motivate.

It was a brief history of Joren's life and how he had died, his time in the void—that was all. It didn't reveal the other part where he killed the siblings or the monsters.

At the bottom of the page there was another text.

[The one that salivates the worlds.]

'What does this supposed to mean?' Galrian thought.

The last words are a small future prediction, more like a riddle. Sometimes too clear for Galrain to comprehend and sometimes too difficult. And this was lodged in the middle.

He looked at Joren and understood that he didn't belong to the clan he had assumed, but rather was a newbie that was stuck in the void.

"I want you to come with me."

Marti wanted to stop him from taking Joren away, but she didn't dare to. Galrian was the law, Galrian was justice; he was the mountain no one could go against when he wanted something to happen.

She bit her lips; however, even she began to wonder why she tried to stop Galrian…

It was now up to Joren to decide; there was no way saying No to Galrian was possible.

'Just bobble your head up and down and leave with him.'

Marti said, anxiously, and she gritted her teeth, waiting.

At last, Joren made his decision; he was up on his feet again and solemnly said.

"Let's get going then."
