Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 The truth about James

*James's house*

JAMES:

Grandma, I'd like to have a conversation with you.

JAMES'S GRANDMA:

You sound serious, what is wrong?

JAMES:

I'm about to ask you a question and I want nothing but the truth.

JAMES'S GRANDMA:

Okay sure

JAMES:

Is it true my parents died in a car accident?

JAMES'S GRANDMA:

Yes, I've already told you this.

JAMES:

I told you to not lie! Where did you really get me from? Was it from a young lady? She gave me to you and run away when I was a baby??!

( She was quite, tears started flowing from her eyes )

Just answer me!

JAMES'S GRANDMA:

Ye..yes,yes! I'm so sorry my grandson. I didn't want you to grow up thinking..

JAMES:

Thinking what? You had no right to lie to me! I grew up always asking God why he took my parents from me at an early age. You told me my family neglected me, and because of that I always looked down on myself!

JAMES'S GRANDMA:

I'm sorry my grandson, I'm so so sorry.

( she said sobbing )

( James left the house angrily )

*the beach*

JAMES:

What is this? My parents are still alive, but why am I not excited. Why do I feel so angry? I have a brother, but why am I not excited?!

( he broke down into tears )

James went home very late and left the house the next morning without speaking to his grandma.

KWAME:

Yo guy, what happened yesterday? You just vanished after the last lesson.

JAMES:

Yeah I had to do something.

Any news about your step brother?

KWAME:

No no.. we're still searching.

Anyways, can you come over my house this weekend?

JAMES:

Yeah sure.

SHANTEL:

Babe, I came over your house last night but grams said you weren't around.

JAMES:

I went to the beach. Let's get inside, lesson is starting soon.

*in the classroom*

MR SASU:

Good morning class, how're you doing?

(the entire class stood up to greet mr Sasu except for James, he was lost in thoughts)

Hey James!

JAMES:

Yes.. yes sir.

MR SASU:

Come here.

What's wrong with you? Why didn't you greet?

JAMES:

Sorry sir, I was just lost in thought.

MR SASU:

Did you get a girl pregnant?

(the entire class burst out into laughter)

JAMES:

No no, of course not.

MR SASU:

Go sit and get your mind in the class.

KWAME:

You seem lost, is everything okay?

JAMES:

Yeah, yeah.

(during lunch break, the four friends sat to eat under a tree)

SAMUEL:

Can I come around this weekend Kwame? I'll be home alone.

JAMES:

Yeah, I'll be going there. You should come with me, you too babe.

KWAME:

I thought it was going to be just the two of us James.

JAMES:(to himself)

I don't think I can be in that house alone with just my mom and brother.

SHANTEL:

It's okay if you don't want us to come Kwame.

( she said breaking the silence )

JAMES:

No, you guys should come.

(Kwame stood up and walked away angrily )

Don't worry I'll go talk to him.

( he said before going after Kwame )

KWAME:

Stop following me, I want to be left alone.

JAMES:

I understand why you're angry but please listen to me. They have to be there, they can also help you.

KWAME:

Help me how? I need only you!

They don't even know about Mr.Sasu and my brother.

JAMES:

They don't have to know. They would just be with us.

KWAME:

Promise me you won't leave my side till we're done.

JAMES:

I promise you.

(they headed back to where they were eating)

SAMUEL:

So can we come?

KWAME:

Yeah sure, you can. I'm sorry for how I reacted to.

SHANTEL: (to herself)

You're always sorry.

MR SASU:

I've been looking all around for you Kwame, come with me to my office. I have to tell you something.

JAMES:

Do you need me to come with you Kwame?

MR SASU:

That wouldn't be necessary.

KWAME:

Actually yes, I want you to come with me.

MR SASU:

Whatever, let's go.

SAMUEL:

Can I come too?

KWAME, JAMES AND MR SASU:

No!

SAMUEL:

Okay okay, I'll just be here then.

*In the office*

MR SASU:

I know you already know I have a son with your mom Kwame, I also know she made me the villain in the story.

KWAME:

Go straight to the point sir.

MR SASU:

Impatient, just like your father.

JAMES:

It's either you talk or we leave.

MR SASU:

Hmm, your mother and I were in a relationship. I was very poor back then, guess you already know about your dad. He was also poor then. I had no idea your late dad who was my best friend was interested in Helena too.

KWAME:

I know that, you met my mom in senior high. What happened?

MR SASU:

Helena told me her parents were ending her to Canada to school there, because I loved her so much I applied for a scholarship for the same school she was being sent to. I passed you know, but because of her pregnancy I had to decline it because she wasn't going again.

JAMES:

Okay, so if you loved her that much why did you reject the baby you had with her?

MR SASU:

I didn't reject the baby, I took the baby. I was willing to put my life on hold so I could take care of the baby while Helena went to Canada to further her education.

But the night before she would leave, I found out that she had made plans with my best friend and they were leaving together. I called her to ask if it was true and all she could say was that she's breaking up with me. So I threatened her, I told her that if she doesn't come for the baby I would kill him and myself.

KWAME:

What the hell? How can you actually do that?

MR SASU:

Of course I wasn't planning on killing, I just wanted to see Helena. But when she was coming she came with your dad, they beat me up together, tied me up and took the baby away. Do you understand now?, all I did was love your mother but I got stubbed in the back.

KWAME:

I don't believe you, there's no way my parents would do that to anyone.

JAMES:

I've met aunt Helena, and she's not the type to do something like that.

KWAME:

We'd take our leave now.

MR SASU:

Just think about what I've said, I'm trying so hard to find your brother and I've gotten a lead, lemme know when you're ready to believe me.

(James and Kwame walked out )
