Elena's voice echoed outside the door.
The moment Charlotte heard it, her body stiffened. The fog in her mind broke at once. She sat up on the bed.
"Mother?"
Charlotte's mouth opened slightly as her eyes moved from the door to the window.
Sunlight flooded the room.
The sun was high in the sky.
"…It's already noon?" Charlotte muttered under her breath.
She slowly got off the bed and walked toward the door. A soft yawn escaped her lips as her fingers touched the handle.
Creeeak.
The door opened.
The instant Elena saw her, her eyes widened.
"Charlotte?" Elena stared at her in disbelief.
"What are you doing here?"
Charlotte leaned slightly against the doorframe, her face calm. Then she spoke in a flat tone, as if she were talking about something ordinary.
"Trying to have a baby."
There was a faint smug look in her eyes.
"What?"
Elena stepped forward at once. Her face turned stiff. "What do you mean?"
