Chapter 266 - Chapter 266: Rescuing Kesiskoi Village

Upon receiving Manuel's order, the Bosporus Army quickly consolidated its several scattered marching formations into three central formations.

For this operation, the Bosporus side adopted a flexible mountain skirmisher formation, with cavalry providing flank protection, in order to effectively eliminate the enemy.

The reason cavalry could be used this time was mainly because the Kaysiskoy region was relatively open, and the vegetation was not as dense as in other parts of the Pontic Mountains.

Seizing this opportunity, Manuel chose to deploy his Tatar cavalry, which he had been training for nearly a year, to test their combat effectiveness.

The change in formation took about a quarter of an hour.

After personally inspecting them, Manuel, filled with anger and anticipation, rode his pony, drew the saber from his waist, pointed it directly at the White Sheep Turkmens who were still plundering, and ordered his soldiers: "Hallelujah, warriors of the Holy Father, charge!"

"Hallelujah!" the Bosporus soldiers responded loudly, full of vigor, and then charged towards the Turkmens who were still engrossed in looting.

As the Bosporus Army gathered and approached from the rear, these Turkmens remained oblivious to their impending doom, most still reveling in the pleasure brought by killing and plundering.

Even Hamza and Sheikh Hassan were infected by this mood, actually taking to the field themselves, leading their personal guards to slaughter civilians in the village.

Only Ali was still cautiously restraining his personal guards from relaxing their vigilance, surveying the surrounding situation.

Because he knew that the strategic objective for this operation had not yet been achieved, and the White Sheep Army had not yet secured a true victory.

"Allah, aren't they ready yet? And Sheikh and Hamza, I clearly told them to secretly restrain the soldiers, so why are they joining in the mischief?" Watching his own troops gradually stray from their objective, Ali couldn't help but complain with a touch of worry.

In fact, his worries were completely justified.

Because just a few minutes after he finished complaining, the Bosporus Army's cavalry burst out from the rear, catching the Turkmen soldiers, who were still in the ecstasy of looting, completely by surprise.

In one farmhouse, a squad of Turkmens who had shed some of their armor for easier looting were directly cut down by the angry but orderly orthodox soldiers, allowing these muslims to thoroughly experience the pain of being slaughtered by the Christians they had despised.

This was not the only place where the situation reversed.

After all the Bosporus Army entered the fray, the original situation completely turned around.

The Turkmens, who had initially considered themselves hunters, discovered with horror that, lacking organization and engrossed in looting, they now seemed to have become the prey.

Soon, large numbers of Turkmen soldiers who had just been enjoying the plunder were counter-killed by the arriving Bosporus soldiers.

During this time, Sheikh and Hamza, who were of the White Sheep royal family, were even almost caught in the crossfire; had their personal guards not been vigilant enough to protect their masters and retreat in time, their fate would likely have been no better than that of the ordinary Turkmen soldiers.

Ali, who had cautiously remained somewhat detached from the situation, finally learned of the enemy's attack after his side had suffered losses.

Upon realizing that his side had been forced onto the defensive due to focusing on looting and neglecting defenses, he immediately cursed angrily on the spot, "I said we should quickly take the castle of Kaysiskoy, but these fools who can't even remember the main text of the scripture are just plundering for a moment of pleasure! Allah, now look, the enemy's reinforcements have arrived!"

Even so, after this complaint, Ali still did not intend to abandon the plan to capture Kaysiskoy village.

Although the situation seemed unfavorable, he always believed that his forces had the strength to fight.

Until his two brothers rushed over, escorted by their personal guards—

"May Allah protect you all. How is the situation?" Ali asked with unease, seeing his brothers arrive in a panic.

"Allah, Ali, it's not good, these Romans are too brutal!" His second brother, Hamza, recalled with lingering fear the scene where he had encountered the Bosporus Army: he had been happily flaying civilians alive in a house for amusement when suddenly a disciplined and well-equipped Bosporus infantry unit burst in with long spears.

If he hadn't reacted quickly, he would probably have lost his life there, just like most of his personal guards who were engrossed in pleasure.

Sheikh Hassan's experience was quite similar; the only difference was that he was quick-witted and fled before the Christian soldiers reached him, suffering minimal losses.

After learning that his brothers were all safe and sound, Ali let out a deep sigh.

After several tribal leaders also fled to his side, Ali, grateful for their safety, casually asked them: "Allah protect us, Allah protect us. By the way, where are the remaining Ghazi Warriors?"

"..." The White Sheep leaders, including his two brothers, remained silent.

Seeing this, Ali roughly understood what was happening, and could only roar inwardly before ordering: "Retreat! Retreat to Erzurum! We will return, allah akbar!"

Upon receiving Ali's order, the White Sheep leaders present, as they shamefully tried their best to lead their forces to retreat, were somewhat relieved that he had not issued any foolish orders for a fight to the death, otherwise they would have found it difficult to disobey him, and the consequences might have been more than just losses and humiliation.

Thus, the White Sheep Army, caught off guard, chose to preserve most of its strength and shamefully retreated from Kaysiskoy village under the leadership of Ali and others, fleeing back to their camp in Erzurum.

While Manuel led the Bosporus Army in expelling the invading White Sheep Army from Kaysiskoy, in the palace of Mangup City, Barbara, as regent, after carefully reviewing several financial reports and the final reports on those who had openly and secretly defied authority, pleasantly mimicked her husband, elegantly sipping clear tea in an Eastern Dynasty-style posture.

"Indeed, after exiling those corrupt elements who led the blasphemy and dereliction of duty, these financial reports are much clearer. May the Holy Mother bless us." After muttering this, she quickly and meticulously approved the reports with a cheerful heart.

Arno, who was standing by, awaiting further orders, saw Regent Barbara in this state and involuntarily tensed up, "Saint Matthew, such decisive and concise methods... I thought she had the temperament of a little girl back then, but now it seems Her Majesty Barbara and Caesar are fundamentally the same type of person, aren't they?"

Just as he was recalling Barbara's character and demeanor when he first arrived in the Tauris Peninsula, Barbara had already diligently finished reviewing these reports and turned to examine several reports on the current state of Simferopol's construction.

Just as Barbara was about to finish reviewing these and conclude the day's affairs early to attend to little Justiana, a report on the activities of Roman Catholic in North Tauris suddenly caught her eye.

After a long pause, having read it, her originally clear dark brown eyes darkened, and she bit her lip fiercely, softly scolding the Catholic missionaries, "Indestructible weeds, heretics spreading false faith!"
