"Shit… as much as I want to stay around, I need to head back now. My master is calling for me."
The sigil on the back of Edwin's hand glowed a faint red and he cursed. He looked crushed at the fact that he needed to start heading back, but there was no other way for him to protect himself.
After all, there was not much difference between a sigil and a contract. And Edwin was forced to follow it if he wanted to keep on living.
"I understand. Head back for now and do what you are tasked to do. Just… survive until I am able to help you out."
I told Edwin, and he looked happy and thankful that I had not judged him for his choices… not that I was in any position to judge anyone after what I had done to survive myself.
"Alright, I will… head back. Thank you for coming to save us, and I promise neither I nor anyone else would hold it against you, even if you were to fail here and now."
The man told me, and I felt my heart warm at his words.
