Chapter 208 -  Ascension! Charizard vs Entei! vs Articuno!

[Lian Wu]: Truly gratifying, truly gratifying! Fortunately Charizard realized its mistake and turned back in time. Otherwise a disaster might have happened.

[Professor Kukui]: You can tell Charizard is doing everything it can to make up for its past mistakes. The kid just had too much trauma when it was young. If it hadn't met Ash, it might've grown into a real troublemaker.

[Caitlin]: That's why Ash is so gentle. Maybe that's also why Miss Cynthia and Miss Diantha like him.

[Sonia]:The world kisses me with pain, yet I respond with song. Ash really has a great personality. I truly admire that.

[Ash]: You're making me embarrassed… I just followed my heart. I didn't think that much at the time.

That is the heart of a pure child.

Only Ash can face Pokémon with that kind of mindset.

Back to the Scene

After finishing their journey in the Orange Islands, Ash and his friends took a short rest before setting out toward the Johto League.

After everything they had been through, Ash and Charizard reconciled.

Charizard gradually returned to the personality it had back when it was a Charmander.

The goofy side that had been suppressed for so long started to come back.

This made some of Charizard's actions rather hilarious.

When Ash tried to catch Chikorita, Charizard almost embarrassed itself—

Chikorita slammed it into a wall with Vine Whip, and the Flamethrower Charizard had been charging accidentally blasted straight into Ash's head.

The audience burst into laughter.

Who would have thought that the Charizard that would one day challenge gods also had such a comical side?

Remember this moment!

If they ever meet Ash's Charizard in person, they'll make it sign this scene!

Charizard Valley

After arriving in Johto, Ash and Charizard eventually reached Charizard Valley.

But entering the valley was anything but easy.

They faced countless humiliations.

Charizard was crushed by other Charizard again and again, and was even thrown straight into the water by a female Charizard named Liza.

For Charizard, who had always pursued strength, this was devastating.

It even began to question whether it had grown complacent.

Ash saw everything.

He understood Charizard's feelings.

After struggling internally, Ash made a painful decision.

He asked Charizard to stay in Charizard Valley and train.

Then he turned around and walked away, forcing himself not to look back.

Charizard stared at Ash's departing figure.

Then it looked at the other Charizard in the valley.

Thousands of emotions surged in its heart.

For the sake of traveling farther with Ash…

For the sake of helping Ash achieve his dream…

Charizard silently walked toward the other Charizard.

Time Passes

Months flew by.

Under the guidance of its own kind, Charizard's strength skyrocketed.

It could now defeat almost every Charizard in the valley—

Except the strongest one.

Every other Charizard eventually fell before Ash's Charizard.

Even Liza was impressed by its strength.

And just like that…

Ash was still single.

But his Charizard found a girlfriend first.

Ridiculous!

(Ash: Nobody told me that catching Pokémon would transfer my emotional intelligence to them!)

Even viewers were shocked.

Many single people flooded the chat saying:

"Start a class! I'll pay to learn!"

That alone showed how impactful Charizard's romantic success was.

The Reunion

After so long training, Charizard missed Ash terribly.

Almost as if they shared a spiritual connection, Charizard suddenly heard Ash's call.

Charizard returned.

Right at the time of the Silver Conference.

Ash was full of determination.

He swore to win the championship.

With improved skills and perfect teamwork, Ash and Charizard reached the Top 16.

Their opponent was none other than Gary.

When Charizard entered the field, it immediately defeated Gary's Scizor with Flamethrower.

Gary responded by sending out Golem.

"Charizard! Use Seismic Toss!"

But when Charizard lifted Golem into the air…

It realized the opponent was too heavy.

It dropped Golem back down.

Ash quickly adapted.

"Use Dragon Rage!"

In an unbelievable moment—

Gary's Golem was defeated by Dragon Rage.

After that, Gary sent out his final ace:

Blastoise.

The battle between Charizard and Blastoise was intense.

Both trainers had been rivals since childhood.

Both fought with everything they had.

Eventually Ash seized an opportunity.

Charizard grabbed Blastoise's shell—

And performed the iconic move.

Seismic Toss!

The spinning descent sealed the victory.

Ash advanced to the Top 8.

But sadly…

In the quarterfinals, Charizard lost to Harrison's Blaziken.

Ash's Silver Conference run ended there.

Still—

From Top 16 in the Indigo League

to Top 8 in the Silver Conference

Ash had improved.

So had Charizard.

Charizard was redeeming its past.

But sometimes the opponent was simply too strong.

Chat Reactions

[Gary]: WHAT?! I lost to you in another world too?! Impossible! My Blastoise is way stronger! You must've cheated!

[Ash]: Hehe. Whether I cheated or not doesn't matter—you're still my loser in every timeline!

Direct emotional damage.

Gary was instantly silenced.

[Delia]: No wonder I always felt something strange. Turns out all my son's emotional intelligence went into his Pokémon! Even Charizard found a girlfriend while you're still single!

[Red]: Ash, you need to hurry. Your mom is worried.

[Ash]: ???

[Blue]: Hahaha! Maybe Aunt Delia was actually talking about you, Red! Ash is still a teenager, but you're almost an adult!

[Green]: Exactly! I think our Yellow is pretty good—want to give it a try?

[Delia]: I wonder if I'll ever see my grandson in this lifetime…

Red suddenly felt something was wrong.

Had he just been set up?

The Entei Incident

After the Silver Conference, Charizard returned to Charizard Valley to train again.

Ash went back to Pallet Town to rest.

Soon he set out traveling again.

Because Ash's dream was to become a Pokémon Master.

He couldn't stop.

During his travels, something strange happened.

A mysterious crystal tower appeared.

A girl named Molly had unknowingly used the power of the Unown to create illusions.

Her imagination created a powerful guardian—

Entei.

Entei kidnapped Ash's mother Delia, forcing her to play the role of Molly's mother.

Ash had no choice but to rescue her.

But Entei possessed the true power of the legendary beast.

Ash and Pikachu were completely outmatched.

Just when they were about to lose—

Charizard arrived.

Far away in Charizard Valley, it had seen Ash's situation on TV and flew there immediately.

Charizard landed beside Ash.

They exchanged a glance.

Ash climbed onto Charizard's back.

Trainer and Pokémon united as one.

They challenged Entei.

At first, Charizard used its flying advantage to gain ground.

But Entei was still Entei.

Eventually a Sacred Fire struck Charizard down.

Their first battle against a godlike being ended in defeat.

Entei prepared to finish Charizard—

But Molly finally woke up from her illusion and stopped the fight.

The battle ended.

Molly returned to reality.

And Entei vanished back into her dream.

Aftermath

The one most affected by this experience was Charizard.

Even after becoming one of the strongest in Charizard Valley…

It still couldn't defeat Entei.

This reignited its desire for greater power.

So Charizard once again said goodbye to Ash and returned to training.

Chat Commentary

[Steven]: I wish we had seen more of that fight. Charizard's rescue was amazing.

[Wallace]: I agree for once. Charizard was impressive—even standing against Entei.

[Professor Cerise]: At this stage Charizard is still a "normal Pokémon." Yet it fought Entei evenly for a while. That's incredible.

[Flint]: As a Fire-type trainer, I feel like not having a Charizard makes me out of touch. When I recover, I'm catching one!

[Volkner]: Focus on recovering first. I'll take your Elite Four position for now.

[Flint]: No! I need that salary to pay my debts!

Volkner quietly kept one thing to himself—

Flint's salary was already being temporarily collected by him.

After all…

Someone had to get paid.

The Next Challenge

Later, during Ash's Battle Frontier journey, he met the Frontier Brain Noland.

When asked what Pokémon he wanted to face—

Ash thought for a moment.

Then his eyes lit up.

"I want to challenge your Articuno!"

Noland was stunned for a moment.

Then burst out laughing.

"What spirit, kid!"

A young trainer daring to challenge a legendary Pokémon.

His Articuno had no divine title—

But it was still a true legendary Pokémon. 🐉🔥❄️
