Chapter 149 - Chapter 149 "Good Friend"

Since the Young Master Gang was formed, their morale had never been as low as it was today.

Luke looked at them indifferently, his tone more chilling than usual.

"Why are you all hanging your heads? Are you scared? Looking for comfort from me?"

Wang Hu shouted, "Boss, we're not scared, we're just frustrated."

"Exactly, frustrated."

"So frustrating."

Everyone was filled with righteous indignation, gritting their teeth as they recalled the past events.

Luke said in a deep voice, "It's good that you feel frustrated. At least it shows you're still men."

"Heal well. The battle has only just begun."

Everyone's expressions hardened, and a hint of killing intent appeared on their grim faces. The few nurses changing dressings, sensing the shift in mood, quickly hid in the ward and dared not show themselves.

Luke called the doctor over to inquire about their condition. After confirming that everyone had only suffered injuries of varying degrees and were not in life-threatening danger, he left Carol and went to the VIP area alone.

Danny was staying there; among the brothers, he was the most severely injured.

Seeing Luke, Danny's face was taut, his eyes filled with deep guilt.

"I'm sorry, boss. I let you down."

Luke shook his head, "Once you're a boss, don't say 'I'm sorry' anymore. This isn't your fault."

"But I lost, and I lost badly."

Luke picked up an apple, peeling it as he spoke, "My grandfather told me when I was little: as a man, you can be defeated, but you must never surrender." He looked up, staring directly at him.

"Tell me, are you going to give up?"

Danny gritted his teeth and shook his head resolutely.

"Even if I die, I won't surrender."

"That's the spirit of a boss." Luke placed the peeled apple in front of him. "Heal well. You're the gang leader; some things need to be handled by you personally."

With that, he turned and left.

After leaving the VIP area, he called Wang Hu, Tony, and Dio into an empty ward.

"Tell me, what happened?"

Tony couldn't help but roar, "That bastard was just looking for trouble!"

Luke glanced at him, "Looking for trouble?"

"Yes!" Tony clutched his swollen right cheek, his voice full of indignation, "Tonight, we were helping Danny clean up, when that guy suddenly burst in, talking about upholding justice and fighting crime. Bah! Our Young Master Gang hasn't dealt drugs or engaged in prostitution all these years. We only run nightclubs, docks, and casinos. Without us keeping things in check, Seaport City would have been in chaos long ago. That bastard actually said we were committing crimes. Damn it, I really wanted to dismember him."

Luke looked at Dio and Wang Hu.

"What about you two? Do you also think he's asking for a death wish?"

Wang Hu nodded, while Dio had a different idea.

"I think he's showing off."

"Showing off?"

"Yes."

Dio nodded seriously, "Green Lantern only appeared in Seaport City today; we've never heard of him before. And his abilities are very peculiar, not like superpowers.

It seems to be some kind of special power, just like the Purple Light Woman who appeared in the City of Pleasure before." He paused, looked up at Luke, and after receiving a nod, continued,

"Coupled with his flamboyant personality displayed in combat, I infer that he must have only recently acquired this ability."

"As soon as he got his powers, he couldn't wait to run to the gang and provoke us, not killing people, only injuring them. Based on the above deductions, his goal is to show off."

A hint of admiration flashed in Luke's eyes. As expected of the calmest person in the Young Master Gang, in terms of intelligence alone, he was leagues ahead of the others.

Wang Hu and Tony were also pensive, thinking Dio's analysis made a lot of sense, yet feeling something didn't quite add up.

Dio continued, "Normally, the purpose of showing off is to prove something, just like a poor boy who was bullied all his life, growing up to become a billionaire. Of course, he would go home and show off; it's human nature."

Tony rubbed his hair, puzzled, "Even if he wants to show off, why pick on us?"

Wang Hu said coldly, "He has a grudge against the gang."

Dio shook his head, his eyes on Luke, and said word by word,

"It's not a grudge against the gang, but a grudge against you, Young Master."

As his words fell, Tony and Wang Hu both froze. "That's not right. All of the boss's enemies have been thrown into the sea to feed the sharks. How can there be other enemies?"

"That's unclear. Perhaps it's a fish that got away, or perhaps it's for another reason."

"Young Master, you need to be careful these days. His next target is very likely you."

Luke suddenly laughed, a somewhat inexplicable laugh. Others might not know who Green Lantern was, but how could he not?

Hal Jordan!

The future Green Lantern, you really are looking for death!

...In an apartment in the west district of Seaport City, an excited Hal Jordan paced back and forth in the room. His good friend Tom sat on the sofa, worried.

"I don't understand why you want to cause trouble for the Young Master Gang."

"It's fine, Tom."

Hal, who had just experienced his first real combat, was exhilarated. He gripped his hair with both hands, his face full of disbelief.

"Do you know? I took down dozens of their subordinates by myself. Those were people from the Young Master Gang, with all sorts of high-tech equipment. We had a magnificent fight. That feeling was so thrilling."

Tom frowned and said in a deep voice, "I think you're overly excited right now. Don't forget, you only have superpowers when you wear the ring. Without the ring, you're just an ordinary person. If they find out your true identity, you're finished. They'll definitely throw you into the sea to feed the fish."

"Don't worry, I wore a mask and a green suit. No one will recognize me."

"That still doesn't mean you should go to their headquarters..."

Tom's face was filled with helplessness. He felt his friend's actions were very problematic, like a poor boy who became rich overnight. Yes, it was that kind of nouveau riche mentality.

As soon as he got the ring, he ran to their headquarters to show off his power, making Luke Xiao lose face. Ultimately, wasn't it all because of Carol?

Tom suddenly lost the desire to stay. After a few drinks, he got up and left.

Leaving the building, he was met by a shadow.

Tom looked up, his pupils constricting rapidly, "You are..."

...Thump, thump, thump!

Thump, thump, thump!

Heavy knocking echoed in the hallway. Hal opened the door and, seeing his friend outside, asked in confusion,

"Why are you back?"

"My... my phone is... is missing. Can... can you help me find it?"

Hal didn't notice that his friend's expression was a bit off. He turned to look for it.

"Tom" took a baseball bat from his backpack, aimed it at the back of "his friend's" head, and swung it down without hesitation.

Bang!

Blood splattered, and Hal Jordan, who had just been excited about his "one-man army" feat, collapsed directly to the ground.

"Tom" walked into the room, found a glowing green lantern and a uniquely designed green crystal ring in the bedroom, then carried "his good friend's" body downstairs.

Heavy footsteps pressed on the wooden stairs, making creaking sounds.

The sounds gradually faded, leaving only the blood-stained baseball bat rolling in the hallway.
