When an object drops into water, it creates expanding circular ripples. Normally, this energy dissipates uniformly in all directions and naturally grows weaker. Most of it scatters and is entirely wasted, and only a tiny fraction ever reaches where it is actually needed. That waste was the real problem. At the later levels, his realm's appetite grew so massive that, left unchecked, it would suck up every resource in the universe just to make up for everything it was throwing away. He could not afford to keep relying on the universe to feed it.
So Grey bypassed the natural decay by violently forcing the expanding waves to follow a strict logarithmic spiral instead. Nothing leaked out sideways. Nothing scattered. Every bit of energy that the old method would have bled into nothingness was now routed forward through the geometry and delivered intact.
