Chapter 73 - A Goodbye for Now

Since Wednesday had agreed to accompany him on his next mission, Jonathan packed his things, and this time he went to the airport with only her by his side.

He wanted to teach Wednesday everything—every detail she needed to consider for each mission.

In some cases, the answer was right in front of them, but it was true that the effect a dark entity had on its surroundings was predetermined. In other words, a series of unfortunate events needed to happen before the hunters or exorcists of the area could take care of the threat.

But since the beginning of his career as a hunter, Jonathan had prevented many people from dying. Not only that, he had noticed threats long before they erupted, simply because he understood how these events usually unfolded afterward.

He hoped that if he trained Wednesday, she would also be able to see such things.

The two packed their belongings and planned to take a car to the airport.

Since there were no more flights available at the Hawkins, Indiana airport, they decided to go to the nearest one.

It was already quite late. Jonathan wanted to test something—to know exactly whether the unfortunate events were on their side or not.

A taxi stopped at the terminal entrance. The two opened the door and got out of the car.

Jonathan walked ahead, dressed in a black cloak, while Wednesday was one step behind with a black backpack on her back. She had taken off her skirt and put on pants so she could move more easily.

A pair like that was far too eye-catching and drew the attention of many passersby.

At the same time, not far from them, a black bus was parked by the roadside with the words "Abraham High School" printed on its side.

After the door opened, many young students began entering the airport one by one.

"Pay attention, hurry up, and line up for your tickets! Make sure it's flight AF180, final destination—Paris!" shouted a woman with long hair who seemed to be supervising the teenagers.

"Well, would you look at that? My dad was right—strange things really do happen at airports," a boy suddenly said aloud.

"What do you mean?"

"Look, Alex—a priest with a girl dressed in black. Is there a costume party I wasn't invited to?"

The calm young man named Alex turned around when he heard that. "Todd, we can't talk about other people like that. It'll get us in trouble once we're in another country."

"If you cause trouble at an airport, even if it's not your fault, they can keep you from boarding the plane, so I'd listen to Alex," said the woman who had previously given orders to her students.

A woman walking behind Alex with a book in her arms turned to look at the priest from afar when she heard that. She had bangs and wore a blouse that revealed her midriff, and her sharp facial features made her look captivating.

Part of the group quickly arrived at the waiting area.

Alex was about to check in his luggage when he suddenly felt a strange sensation—as if someone had touched his back.

He turned around.

Standing before him was a bald man with two vertical lines painted on his face, resembling some kind of religious symbol.

The man handed Alex a pamphlet and said, "Death is not the end."

Alex looked puzzled, but his teacher—who had been keeping an eye on him and his best friend Todd—quickly stepped forward and shooed the man away.

Soon, Alex reached the luggage check-in area.

While waiting, he noticed that the flight schedule on the airport screen had changed.

Except for the plane they were taking, all other flights were listed as "Delayed."

"What a coincidence." Alex was pulled from his thoughts by a sudden voice.

He turned around and saw it was the check-in clerk.

"What a coincidence! Your birthday matches your flight's departure time."

The clerk returned his ID with a smile.

Alex looked down and saw that his birthday was September 25th.

The flight was scheduled to depart exactly at 9:25.
