Chapter 87 - Chapter 87 – Are they here?

The world had transformed into a nightmarish landscape of fire and smoke.

The RPG's explosion reverberated in my ears, ripping apart the night with a cacophony of shouts, gunfire, and the acrid stench of burning metal. My arm throbbed from the recoil of the launcher, but retreat wasn't an option. I needed Ellie with a heartbeat, and her very essence beside me, alive and fighting. That thought anchored me through the storm.

Enemies surged from the tree line, dark figures charging through the chaos, their masks glinting menacingly in the flickering flames. I gritted my teeth, weapon raised, defiance shaping my roar. "We hold here!"

Beside me, Ellie stood fierce, blood streaked across her cheek, her hair wild, eyes burning with determination. Steadily, she fired her rifle, unflinching as bullets zipped past her. Pride twisted with fear inside me; she was unyielding, an embodiment of resilience and strength.

Then, headlights sliced through the smoke, a beacon amid the turbulence.

For a heart-stopping moment, I feared the worst; this may bring more enemies, more death, but then I recognized the convoy of black SUVs barrelling across the Donovan estate like beasts unleashed. Relief hit me like a wave crashing ashore, flooding my chest.

"It's the reinforcements!" I bellowed, the words a lifeline.

The vehicles skidded into the courtyard, gravel flying as the doors flung open. Charlie was the first out, weapon drawn, barking orders before his boots even hit the ground. Right behind him was Jamie, my kid brother, his pale face set with stubborn resolve, holding his rifle with unwavering grip.

And then, breaking through the smoke and chaos, he appeared.

Edward Donovan, my father.

He strode into the battlefield with the unshakeable confidence of a man accustomed to command. The chaos around him seemed to bend, silenced by his aura even without him needing to raise a gun. His men fanned out in disciplined formation, forged by loyalty and fear, ready to follow his lead.

The attackers faltered, confusion washing over them at the sight of my father.

"Cover fire!" Charlie shouted, and his squad sprang into action. Bullets erupted from their weapons, lighting the night like fireworks as they ripped through the enemy lines. Jamie surged forward, dropping to my side, exhilaration brightening his expression.

"Are you okay, big brother?" he yelled over the din of battle.

I managed a smirk despite the metallic taste of blood in my mouth. "Never better." I motioned to Ellie. "Just keep her covered."

Jamie's eyes flickered toward Ellie, surprise lighting his face at the sight of her resolute stance beside me. But he didn't question it; he just shifted and aimed, instinctively protecting her without a second thought.

Ellie acknowledged him with a nod, already refocusing on the fight at hand.

My father approached, unhurried, even as bullets passed in a deadly chorus. His face was a mask of grim determination, his voice cutting through the chaos like cold steel. "This is the second time they've dared to invade our territory," he stated, a calculating edge in his tone. "Foolish, but I'll credit them for their nerve. They didn't know who they were provoking." His gaze swept across the battlefield before locking onto me. "I want this finished, Tristan. Make an example of them. Show the world that the Donovan fang still holds venom. Tonight, let our power be known."

As Ellie's shoulder brushed against mine, something ignited within me, a fusion of fury and purpose, honed into a razor-sharp focus.

"Yes, sir," I replied, my voice low and lethal.

The estate was no longer just under siege; it had transformed into the crucible of the Donovan legacy. A battlefield forged in blood and loyalty, and the balance was shifting.

With our reinforcements at our side, I sensed the tide turning.

The gunfire ceased to feel chaotic; it resonated like justice delivered.

The world would remember who we were, and the next time they dared move against us,

They would recall the fire that burned here tonight.
