"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 178: The Universal Rival—Enemy of Every Boy and Girl

Morning found Long Yi jerked awake, suffocating—literally.

The sensation had chased him through his dreams: Rias and the others pressed in on all sides, leaving him gasping for breath, trapped in a sea of limbs and warmth.

He blinked, vision filled with a pair of impossibly pale, long legs.

Whose legs were these? They were locked tight around his neck, threatening to snap it like a twig...

Long Yi tried to pry them off, but his arms were pinned—someone had wrapped themselves around him, holding him captive.

...Right. Now he remembered.

Last night, his bed had endured far more than it was ever meant to. Normally, three people was pushing it. Last night? Five. Somehow, they'd all piled on.

Twisting his head, he managed to carve out a sliver of air. Finally, he could breathe—though the scent that greeted him was pure ocean breeze.

Who the hell spent all night scissor-locking my neck?

He craned his neck, searching for the culprit.

...Xenovia.

Of course.

Her sleeping style was downright ferocious. Rias and Asia slept beside him most nights, but they always looked serene, almost angelic. Akeno, from her personality, seemed the type to sleep perfectly still. Which left Xenovia—the wild card.

Did she always sleep like this? Was this her true form?

Long Yi gingerly freed his arm from Asia's sleepy embrace and finally managed to pry Xenovia's thigh off his neck. That scissor grip could snap a man's spine.

He hadn't been this battered even during last night's four-on-one showdown.

Letting your guard down in sleep—deadly mistake.

He rolled out of bed, rubbing his back. His stamina was freakish: after last night's marathon, he still felt like he had energy to spare. One night's sleep, and he was completely recharged.

At this rate, Xenovia's wish might come true sooner than she thought...

Glancing at the time, Long Yi started rousing the girls.

"Rise and shine."

A chorus of sleepy whimpers answered him. Eyelids fluttered open, faces still half-lost in dreams.

"Good morning..."

Rias smiled, sweet as spring. She loved waking up to Long Yi's voice—just seeing him first thing set her mood for the day.

"Morning, Rias."

He smiled back, his hand trailing lightly over each girl—soft skin, warmth, the kind of simple pleasure he'd never get tired of.

Soon, everyone was up. With no morning training today, Long Yi helped with breakfast. After they'd finished eating, with time to spare, Rias suggested something unusual: walking to school together.

Normally, they'd teleport—magic made sure no one at school ever questioned it. But maybe because they were all living together now, Rias was feeling sentimental. She wanted to walk.

No one objected. The school was close, after all.

So, under the golden morning sun, the group set off, laughter and chatter trailing behind them.

They turned heads everywhere they went. Not surprising—five beautiful girls, each one striking in her own way.

As they neared the school, their little parade caused a stir. Students on their way to class stopped, stared, whispered.

Had anyone ever seen the entire Occult Research Club walk to school together before? It felt new, strange, exciting.

Curiosity quickly gave way to awe.

"Wow... Rias-senpai is gorgeous..."

"And Akeno-senpai—she smiled at me!"

Girls whispered in delight. Rias and Akeno were legends—school royalty, admired by everyone, regardless of gender.

Koneko was the mascot, pure and adorable.

Asia and Xenovia, the transfer students with their air of sacred mystery—even after becoming devils, that aura lingered. To the school, they were goddess-tier.

And then there was Long Yi—the most controversial member.

To the boys, he was the ultimate enemy: the smug, lucky bastard living every harem dream. But lately, even the girls had started to see him as a rival.

When he'd first transferred, he'd seemed so ordinary. His introduction was half-hearted, his smile bland, his presence forgettable. No one paid attention.

But after joining the Occult Research Club, he changed—he started to shine.

His aura, his confidence, everything about him became magnetic.

And of course, his relationships with Rias and the others only made things worse. He was the only boy in the club, and now, half the girls in school saw him as competition.

Yes—at Kuoh Academy, Long Yi's "rivals" included every boy... and more than half the girls.

Utterly absurd.

Still, compared to the hopeless yuri fans, the boys held the deepest grudges.

"Tch, that bastard must be enjoying Rias-nee-san and Akeno-nee-san every day!"

"Ugh, I wish Akeno-nee-san would hold me just once..."

"Koneko is too cute..."

"Asia—Asia's holding Long Yi's arm. Damn it, that guy should die a thousand deaths!"

They grumbled, thinking their voices were low, but Long Yi's group heard every word.

"Ara ara, everyone's very passionate today," Akeno said, her smile gentle, walking with perfect grace.

Long Yi just sighed, lips twitching. "Seems I'm not very popular."

"Perverts," Koneko muttered, shooting daggers at the boys. Her silver hair and golden eyes gave her glare real bite—several boys shrank back, laughing nervously.

Rias, ever the queen, was immune. She kept her cool, regal air, leading the way to the clubroom.

With the peace treaty signed, the three factions had settled into calm. Even stray devils had stopped appearing. Long Yi hadn't gone monster-hunting in ages.

Not that he minded—it gave him time for personal business.

Tomorrow was Friday. The day after, Mai Sakurajima would be shooting her commercial.

His girlfriend and sister-in-law's identity swap—finally, it was time to sort out that mess...
