Chapter 23 - The World Comes Tumbling Down

Monse: The two elementals traveled back home as fast as they could on the water platform, without a runic gateway; transportation was incredibly slow. "CANT YOU MAKE THE WIND MOVE FASTER?!"

Wiliaquo: "I AM TRYING!" He used every ounce of power he could to propel himself forward; they knew something horrible had happened when he felt the element of earth collapse across the timeline. His planet was now in view. "Once we get here, we can use my gateway to quickly get everyone off my world and then get us to your place."

There was a sudden flash before them, and without another second passing, fire engulfed the entire planet, causing a chain reaction. The planet soon after exploded; every single thing he had worked so hard to protect, his people, the shard, was gone in an instant.

He stopped and watched as everything burned in the slow-moving explosion. It expanded in silence in the void, which was a bright streak of orange, red, and black. For a second, he forgot to breathe. Suddenly, his body shuddered, and his lungs expelled a scream that was silent but powerful and formed ripples in the very vacuum of the original emptiness.

The air surrounding their protective barrier twisted in a howl and ripped because of the pulse of his love. "Hhhh-AAAHHHHHHHH-NOOOO!!!" The voice suddenly broke the silence like a clap of thunder. "MY PEOPLE, MY SHARD, EVERYTHING!" The aura around him erupted out of his body in huge flashes of blue and white spirals. The water platform started to shake beneath them and dissolve. "WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE THEM?"

Monse: She shielded herself from the eruption of energy. She had never seen the man she loved break so completely. "WILIAQUO!" She tried to call out, but his grief was too strong. The platform beneath them threatened to fracture, so with a single, desperate effort, she tore through the thunderous windstorm and wrapped him in a fierce hug.

Wiliaquo: His aura eased just enough for ragged, shallow breaths to be heard. "Everything I worked for, everything I protected with my life... gone." He leaned his forehead against hers, shoulders trembling as the violent winds around them slowed to a mournful sigh. "He is trying to eliminate us. If even one entire branch of our kind dies, that element fades everywhere. That is his plan."

Monse: "We cannot let him take everything from us." She tightened her hold, closing her eyes as their bodies steadied against each other. "We still have each other. As long as we live, our elements have a chance to endure." She kissed his temple. "We need to get away from him, escape that tyrant. I promise you, we will avenge the fallen."

They stood silent in the abyss of space, rubble of the fallen world passing by, before Wiliaquo finally spoke up through his tears.

Wiliaquo: As he nodded, words escaped. "Yes...We have to get Tiffany and your people...We can not let this pain happen to both of us." He fought through the pain of his own loss, making sure Monse would not experience his agony too. With a powerful gust of wind, he launched them into the deep dark of space from the platform, water and wind rippling through space.

Monse: She held onto him, looking up at Wiliaquo. His face was completely lost in its peaceful nature; only despair remained as he stared deep ahead as they traveled. Her expression softened even further, her heart shattering at what Valkun did to him, but he was right; they could not lose anything else.
