Chapter 50 - Chapter 50 — The quiet before the storm

It had been three days since that afternoon in the courtyard.

Three days since Buu had left her with words that refused to leave her mind.

Mrs. Brief sat by the window, the morning light catching the rim of her teacup. She hadn't realized how quiet Capsule Corp could feel when no one was talking — or maybe it was just that the silence seemed louder now.

Bulma barely spoke to anyone; Mai kept her distance, training alone at dawn. And Buu… Buu was everywhere and nowhere. One moment she'd see him outside, training like a madman — the next, gone without a trace, like the air itself had decided to hide him.

She told herself she didn't care. That what had happened between them had been nothing more than a slip in a lonely moment. But then she'd find herself brushing her hair twice as often before breakfast, wondering if he'd sit next to her again that evening or what to do to stop that strawberry craving.

She hated that she noticed those things. She hated even more that she wanted to.

From the balcony, she could see Bulma kneeling beside a half-dismantled engine, her movements stiff, distracted. Mai stood nearby, arms folded, silent. There was no laughter between them anymore — only what seemed to be a truce to find some sort of winner.

Mrs. Brief sighed and set her cup down. "So this is how the days will go on..." she murmured.

"Not quite," came a voice behind her.

She didn't turn — she didn't have to. Buu leaned in the doorway, arms folded loosely, his expression unreadable as always.

"You came back," she said softly.

"I never left," he replied. "Just give you time."

Mrs. Brief smiled faintly. "And now you think I have an answer?"

He stepped closer, slow, deliberate."It is not true?"

She met his gaze then — and for a heartbeat, she felt that same pull again, that strange gravity that made her forget who was supposed to be the dangerous one.

Mrs. Brief looked away first, her voice low. "You can't be serious."

"Why not?" Buu asked, tilting his head. "It's only truth."

He smiled then, small and knowing, before glancing toward the garden where Bulma and Mai were still working in silence.

"She's changing," he said quietly. "Both of them are. They need a little push."

Mrs. Brief hesitated. "Will you take care of me? My daughter? All of us?"

Buu's smile deepened, though his eyes were distant. "Me? I've never been kind, to begin with. But I can promise you one thing: I will take responsibility for all of-"

Before Buu even finished his sentence, Mrs. Brief she threw herself into his arms and began to kiss him passionately. After a few minutes they separated. "Ahhh, how I've missed this... But," she held back, "we need to talk to someone, don't you think?"

The dining room of Capsule Corp was unusually quiet.

Bulma sat at one end of the table, poking at her food, Mai sat beside her, pretending to eat, but her gaze kept darting toward Buu.

Mrs. Brief set her fork down, very gently. "There's something I need to say." looking at Bulma, "I've thought about this for a long time," she said quietly. "And I've decided… I'm going to divorce your father."

The sound of her words dropped like a stone.

Bulma stood halfway up from her chair. "Mom—what are you talking about? You can't just—"

Mrs. Brief didn't meet her eyes. She turned slightly toward the other end of the table — where Buu sat, silent, his expression unreadable.

"And there's something else."

Mai's fingers tightened around her cup. Bulma's stomach dropped before the words even came.

Mrs. Brief exhaled. "I'm going to marry Buu."
