Chapter 21 – Whispers from the Forest

---

A week passed since Nyx'Gor's shadow had darkened the skies.

No adventurers returned, no Guardians descended. For the first time, a fragile peace fell upon the pack.

The goblins hunted in small units, trained in crude lines, and tended to their newborns. Lila and Mira nursed crying infants while others set snares or sharpened stones.

Altair sat at the cave's mouth, arms folded, watching. They're learning. Slowly, discipline is replacing chaos. This is no longer a wild pack. This is a seed.

But he knew calm never lasted. Beyond the forest, whispers must already be spreading.

---

Far away in the Sylvan Dominion, the marble halls of the elven palace buzzed with quiet unrest.

An elven scout knelt before Queen Eloria, his face pale. "Your Majesty… troubling reports from the forest borders."

Her silver crown tilted slightly. "Reports of what?"

"Human adventurers entered the Forbidden Forest. None returned. The bodies found bore marks of slaughter… not by beasts, but by goblins."

Laughter broke from elven nobles. "Goblins? Ridiculous. They're vermin. Nothing more."

The scout swallowed. "Not ordinary goblins. Witnesses claim… they moved in formation. That strange children gave signals. They fought like soldiers."

The chamber fell silent.

---

Luthien, silver-haired and sharp-eyed, leaned forward. A faint smile tugged at his lips.

"Goblins… in formation? With children giving signals?" He chuckled low, though his eyes glinted cold. "That is no rumor."

Queen Eloria frowned. "You speak as though you know something."

Luthien turned toward the window, the vast forest stretching beyond. "Once, there was a man I knew. One who would not stop—even if cast into the abyss itself."

His fist tightened at his side. Altair… don't tell me you still draw breath.

---

Meanwhile, in the cave, training continued.

"Triangle formation, again!" Altair barked.

The goblins obeyed, their crude spears jabbing together. Arden tapped stone against stone for signals, Lyra strained at ropes, Silas tightened snares, Neriah darted like a shadow to distract.

Infant goblins wailed in the corners, tended by Lila and Mira. The pack now numbered over fifty, swelling with each short-lived birth.

Seraphina, weakened from repeated forced pregnancies, glared from her bindings. "You've turned them into an army," she spat.

Altair's eyes met hers, calm and merciless. "Yes. And you are part of its foundation."

---

That night, Altair sat at the cave's entrance, the stars faint above the forest canopy.

Something pressed at his instincts—not beast, not man. Eyes unseen watched from afar.

"Elves," he whispered. "You've sensed me already, haven't you?"

A slow grin crept across his face. "Then come. Step into this forest. I'll show you… that the goblin you cast aside can turn these woods into your grave."

The night wind stirred. The forest whispered back.
