Papers and photographs spilled across the floor, dozens of them, each filled with sketches.
One in particular caught Xavier's attention.
Susan bent down and picked it up, holding it out to him.
"Who is she?" she asked coldly.
The sketch was of a girl with Hazel green eyes... eyes filled with innocence.
Her lips curved into a bright, gentle smile.
That smile alone melted his heart, but he didn't show it. Instead, he stared at Susan, his expression hard.
"You shouldn't go around touching what's not yours, Susan," he said darkly.
"Who is she, Xavier?!" she snapped.
"Who she is," Xavier replied icily, "Is none of your business."
Susan's eyes narrowed as cold laughter slipped from her lips.
"So it's because of her," she sneered. "Because of her, you decided to back out. Because of this bitch!"
She flung the picture aside.
Xavier ignored her. He removed his jacket and hung it neatly on the wall.
"I'll pretend I didn't hear that," he said dryly.
