Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: I'm Here to Take You Away

"That depends on your definition of a waste," Morin said.

"Do you know what a sea spider is? That's a true waste.

But you" haha, you're actually very useful. You just don't know it yet."

"What do you mean?" Wesley asked, confused.

"Have you ever felt your heart pounding, unable to focus, your blood pumping faster"" Morin's words struck Wesley's heart like a hammer.

"That's what you have. That's your value. You're the son of an assassin, so you have an assassin's bloodline."

"It's not what you think of as an anxiety disorder. It's an innate talent that only the most elite assassins" and one

other type of person possess."

"And besides that, I need to use you. So you're also valuable to me because you can draw out Carlos, your father, the Cross. The Assassin's Guild's most powerful assassin, the Master Assassin!"

"Though you haven't noticed, through my observations these past few days, I've found that he is right beside you, always watching you, just not daring to meet you."

Morin clicked his tongue. "What a ridiculous man"

"...You're lying!" Wesley retorted.

"If he's been here all this time, why would he let me live this kind of life? I'd rather live in a world of killing and death than waste the rest of my life like this!"

A short distance away, Carlos, who had been listening quietly, smiled wryly and shook his head.

He had his reasons, but he also knew that, in a way, he had decided Wesley's life for him. As a father, this was his mistake.

Of course, he also hadn't expected Wesley to be such a failure that was part of it.

"Who knows? Maybe he thought that world was too cruel and didn't want you to be exposed to it?"

Morin shrugged, stood up, and pressed the gun to Wesley's head.

"How about we ask him ourselves?"

"What?"

The cold muzzle was pressed against his temple, but Wesley felt a fire burning inside him.

The amount of information he had just been exposed to in a few short minutes was simply too vast.

His father was actually a killer, who had been watching him in secret. He wasn't a waste after all. And his father had left him and didn't see him when he was a child to protect him"

Although he hadn't met Carlos or heard the answers directly from him, Wesley had basically come to believe most of it.

As the fire in his heart burned, Wesley activated his assassin bloodline again, entering that state where the blood test results came out, and there's no blood in the adrenaline."

He vaguely heard footsteps approaching from a distance, getting louder, until they reached the door. Then, the steel door was kicked open!

"Watch out! Don't come in!" Wesley yelled desperately.

However, Morin's gun fired before he could finish his scream!

Wesley saw the bullet, moving at a visible speed, toward the direction of the door!

Wesley didn't have time to be surprised or marvel at why he could see the bullet flying through the air at that speed.

His heart was in his throat for the man he had never met, who was very likely his father.

In slow motion, Wesley saw two flashes of fire at the door. Then, a bullet shot toward the bullet Morin had fired.

The two bullets collided precisely in mid-air, completely veering off their original trajectory!

And a second bullet that came right after it, from Wesley's perspective, slowly flew toward him, then grazed his scalp!

In reality, this scene took only a few hundredths of a second, but Wesley could see it so slowly and in such detail.

This was the power of an adrenaline junkie" the assassin bloodline!

When Wesley came to his senses, he realized that it was all over.

A little blood had pooled at Wesley's feet, but Wesley

didn't care about that at all right now.

He was panting heavily, focused entirely on the direction of the door, which was still shrouded in darkness.

At the doorway, Carlos hesitated for a moment, then stepped inside.

Wesley saw a scruffy, ordinary-looking man who would disappear into a crowd walk in.

The two stared at each other in silence for a long time.

"So"

After a long time, Wesley's voice trembled, weak and almost inaudible.

"Are you my" father?"

"Yes," Carlos's voice was a little hoarse.

"You" were you watching me all these years?"

"Yes."

"To protect me?"

"Yes."

"Do you know" how much I longed to escape my current life, even if it meant dying?"

Carlos was silent for a long time, then walked over and untied Wesley. "Yes."

"So, I've come to take you away."

"To put you on the path I never wanted you to walk."

"Perhaps he was right."

"I should have given you the power to choose for yourself, rather than making the decision for you."

"Let's go."

Carlos half-carried Wesley, who had become completely weak after activating his assassin bloodline three or four times while starving. He took him outside.

"I can promise you that the life that awaits you will be more exciting than you could ever imagine."

"What about that body?" Wesley asked.

"Someone will handle it," Carlos's mouth twitched. He turned back and saw the "body" that had been lying on the ground had now lifted its head, extended a bloody hand, and gave him the international hand gesture'the middle finger.

Carlos pressed Wesley's head back as he struggled to turn and look, half-carrying, half-dragging him away.

"Let's go. You'll have plenty of chances to see dead bodies

later. Right now, we're short on time!"

Once Carlos and Wesley had left, Morin stood up and stretched.

This was the plan he had devised for Carlos.

Morin would pretend to be an enemy, tie up Wesley, and have Carlos stage a hero-rescues-his-son scene, successfully "killing" Morin and rescuing Wesley.

This was like a man trying to woo a girl through normal means versus trying to woo her after saving her life. The difficulty wasn't even on the same level.

Of course, the premise of a hero saving a beauty was that the hero had to be handsome. Otherwise, it would be a choice between "I have nothing to repay you with except to give myself to you" and "I have nothing to repay you with, so I"ll be your ox and horse in the next life."

But for a hero saving his son" there were naturally no such distinctions. From the looks of it, their plan had been a success.

Of course, the bullet Carlos had fired was intercepted by Morin, and the blood that flowed out was naturally from his storage space.

For now, the play had been a great success.

As for what would happen after that

"Your dad has already joined the guild and owes me such a big favor. How could you possibly get away?"

Morin hummed a little tune and began packing up his things, ready to head to the next stage.
