"In short..."
Bradley opened his mouth, but ultimately suppressed the urge to vent the frustration that felt as instinctual as his own soul.
He knew that to avoid being drawn into Morin's chaotic rhythm, the most important thing he had to do was this: never respond to Morin's strange flights of fancy or words.
He had to keep the conversation focused on what he wanted to discuss! Only then could he avoid being completely derailed by Morin's wild imagination!
"Anyway, everything you said before was too messy and all over the place. I couldn't tell what was true and what was false." Bradley said coldly, refusing to engage with him.
"Alright, alright," Morin sighed helplessly. Without any hesitation, he went to the wine cabinet, grabbed a bottle, flicked it open with a finger, and poured it into a decanter to aerate.
"What I want is to join the Eye of Providence and learn magic. Of course, if I could learn magic without joining, that would be even better. But it seems like that's pretty much impossible."
"Of course it's impossible. I can't even let my adopted daughter learn magic without joining. Why should you be able to?" Bradley scoffed.
"Besides, for Miss Catrina to join the Eye of Providence, she can't rely on outsiders."
Morin poured the wine from the decanter into two glasses, picked them up, and walked over to Bradley, handing him one.
"There's only one way for Miss Catrina to accept my help without the Eye of Providence judging it as cheating."
"You and her become a team and join together..." Bradley said, his expression clouded with uncertainty.
He wasn't doubting whether Morin had the skills to get Catrina into the Eye of Providence.
In fact, he had seen Morin's abilities over the past year through his ten magic performances.
Based on skill alone, Morin was absolutely qualified to join the Eye of Providence, and even far exceeded the requirements.
As a fellow magician who could use magic, Bradley could vaguely tell (or guess) which parts of Morin's performances were magic and which were sleight of hand.
While being a master of ordinary magic tricks, Morin had also mastered magic to a masterful level!
What's more, the number of times Morin could use magic also surprised Bradley.
Honestly, even Bradley, after systematic training within the Eye of Providence, couldn't say he could put on a performance like Morin, and so effortlessly, as if there were no physical costs involved!
So, if Morin hadn't been so focused on making money and hadn't shown any noble qualities like robbing the rich to help the poor, the Eye of Providence would have already sent him an invitation.
Of course, if Bradley wanted, he could also use his connections within the Eye of Providence to get an invitation for Morin.
No organization can avoid the deeply ingrained human instinct of connections. Relationships naturally form wherever people are in an organization.
So, what Bradley was thinking about now was whether he should agree to Morin's terms: send him an invitation to the Eye of Providence and let Morin help his adopted daughter Catrina pass the trials and become a member of the organization!
"Hmm?" Morin raised his glass in a toast.
"..." Bradley hesitated for a while, but ultimately chose to take the glass from Morin's hand, clink it against his, and drink.
"Excellent, the deal is made." Morin nodded with satisfaction, just as he had expected.
"I need to warn you first. Even though you'll be Catrina's partner to complete the trials, you absolutely cannot use this opportunity to try and get her!" Bradley said, clearly distrustful.
"Of course, of course..." Morin waved his hand dismissively. "Didn't I say I'd make no advances? Is that okay?"
"No, you must reject her!"
"That's too much. I'm an upright, red-blooded man. What if she tries to seduce me?"
"That's impossible. It will absolutely never happen!"
"Anything is possible. If it really happens, am I supposed to refuse?"
"Are you really planning to accept?"
"Why not? Besides, if I refuse, aren't you afraid your daughter's confidence will be shattered and she'll fall in love with me or become a lesbian?"
"...You kind of have a point."
Naturally, Bradley, who hadn't had such a debate with anyone in a long time, was once again fooled by the experienced Morin.
When it came to fooling people, Morin couldn't promise anything else, but he could guarantee his success rate!
After going through three worlds and fooling protagonists in each, his skills had to be formidable.
In the end, Morin successfully struck a deal with Bradley.
In exchange for helping Bradley's adopted daughter and assistant, Catrina, pass the trials to become a member of the Eye of Providence, Bradley would apply to the Eye of Providence to issue an invitation for him.
This invitation was not easy to get, and Morin planned to make the most of it.
That night.
In a bar booth.
"Morin!"
Bradley's roar came through the phone, yelling at Morin, who had already held his phone a meter away.
"Where did you take Catrina?"
"You see, to get used to our partnership, Miss Catrina and I decided to get used to our future working dynamic and build some chemistry. The best kind is when we're in each other's heads..."
After saying that, Morin didn't bother to listen to Bradley's reaction and hung up. He looked at the happily smiling Catrina, who was drinking wine next to him.
"You're not angry?" Morin shook his phone, and it disappeared.
"Do you think I should be?" Catrina asked, looking at Morin.
"Well...I think so?" Morin smiled. "I just saw a girl who's been oppressed for a long time."
"How did you know?" Catrina was surprised. "Mind reading?"
"While I do know some magic, mind reading isn't within my skillset. Besides, I wouldn't bother using such magic on a normal person." Morin chuckled, pointing to his head.
"I just figured it out with my brain."
"Wow..." Catrina asked curiously, "How did you do that?"
"It's not that hard. Being a magician is a profession that requires a lot of time. If Bradley wanted you to join the Eye of Providence, you'd have to practice for a long time. And if you weren't naturally gifted, the practice time would be even longer than for a professional magician."
Morin looked at Catrina and said, "And judging by Bradley's attitude today... I'm guessing this is the first time you've been asked out on a date by a man?"
As a seasoned player, Morin was naturally experienced with women. He had only been casually flirting, but when Catrina was so easily swayed, Morin realized something was off.
Through his subsequent conversations with Bradley, he figured out the truth.
Despite her luxurious figure and a face that could easily score an eight out of ten, Catrina had never been on a date because of Bradley's strict tutoring and control!
"You guessed right," Catrina smiled, looking around. "I've been strictly disciplined since I was a child. I wasn't allowed to drink much, and because I had to spend so much time learning magic, I didn't have many friends."
"But no hate," Morin said with certainty. "Despite all that."
"Yes," Catrina looked at Morin, her eyes full of admiration. "I'm starting to really suspect you have mind reading abilities."
"Who knows?" Morin didn't deny it this time. Being vague was another way to increase one's charm.
"Even so, at most, I just felt a little annoyed with my father, because I know he was doing it for my own good," Catrina sighed, holding her fingers slightly apart to show a small gap. Then, she smiled like a fox.
"So, I wanted to annoy him a little today."
"By using me?" Morin smiled. He had seen it coming and had just played along with Catrina.
Morin liked to flirt, but he wasn't so low-class as to flirt with a daughter in front of her old man...
though that did sound kind of fun (he thought quietly to himself). Ahem, anyway, Morin's moral standards were still very high!
"Yes~" Catrina smiled.
"Do you know the price of using me?" Morin asked with a grin.
"I do, but I suspect that even if I offered myself to you, you wouldn't take it," Catrina said with a sly smile.
"Why?" This time, Morin was genuinely surprised.
"My father wouldn't want me to join the Eye of Providence without a reason. Without magical talent, it's all for nothing," Catrina said.
"Use your mind reading to guess what my magical ability is."
"..." Morin pondered. "Mind reading?"
"Yes... but my ability isn't that strong. At most, I can only see people's momentary thoughts and their personalities," Catrina nodded.
"But you're different. With you, I can't see anything. I can only guess based on experience that you're the kind of person who is a free spirit, who doesn't want to be tied down, and who doesn't want to owe or be burdened by anything."
"...You guessed right." Morin tilted his head slightly.
"Then, the rest is easy to explain," Catrina said with a smile. She leaned in and whispered into his ear. "I'm still..."
