Fumiko was only three years old when tragedy first struck her life. She and her older brother, Kenzo, lost their parents in a devastating accident. Miraculously, the siblings survived, but the trauma left them with no memory of their parents or the life they had before.
After the accident, the two were admitted to a hospital, and later sent to an orphanage. Fumiko grew up like a delicate feather in the wind– bright, gentle, and fragile. Kenzo, though still a child himself, became fiercely protective of her. To him, Fumiko was all he had left in the world, and he guarded her with all the strength he could muster.
But fate was cruel. Only a year later, the city was attacked by Abyss monsters. The orphanage was destroyed in the chaos, and almost everyone inside, children and caretakers alike– was slaughtered. Fumiko miraculously survived, but when the smoke cleared, Kenzo was nowhere to be found. She didn't see him, nor his body, and so she lived in painful uncertainty: was her brother alive, or had she lost him too?
Alone once again, Fumiko was sent back to the hospital. This time, however, her life took a gentler turn– she was adopted by a kind family of doctors. They raised her with love and care, providing her with the stability she had longed for. Under their guidance, Fumiko grew into a bright and kind-hearted girl, though deep down, she always carried the ache of her lost brother.
When she grew older, she moved to Yokohama, Japan, to begin living on her own. In middle school, she met a cheerful girl named Ami, who quickly became her closest friend. By the time they entered high school, the two encountered Yuki and Rin, and the four of them formed a bond that felt like the family Fumiko had lost so long ago. Together, they laughed, studied, and leaned on each other, their friendship becoming her source of strength.
Despite her warm smiles and clumsy charm, Fumiko often found herself staring at the horizon, haunted by fragments of dreams she couldn't explain– dreams of fire, of battles, and of a boy calling her name. Though she didn't yet understand it, her destiny was far greater than she could ever imagine.
