The roar of engines tore through the rainy night in Shibuya.
Twenty-three modified cars, like wild beasts, burst out of the MODI Building's underground parking lot, their tires tearing white mist from the wet ground.
Zhang Jie's nissan s15 clung to DK's nissan 350z, the two cars almost side-by-side as they roared onto the main road, engines redlining.
"25 minutes, 25 kilometers, don't fall behind, rookie!" DK's voice crackled over the car radio, laced with playful provocation.
Zhang Jie ignored him, his fingers gripping the steering wheel, the black briefcase in the trunk swaying slightly with the bumps.
"[If nothing unexpected happens, the operation will begin tonight. The box is very likely in your car.]"
Han's words flashed through his mind.
"Because I'm a rookie, no one will suspect me?" Zhang Jie muttered softly.
This situation could indeed happen, after all, all's fair in love and war.
But now, he had to deliver this thing to Tokyo Port right under DK's nose.
After all, the anonymous text message only told him that the item would leave Shibuya at 12 o'clock. It was indeed leaving Shibuya, and in the form of a race.
Raindrops splattered against the windshield, roughly swept away by the wipers.
The 350Z in front suddenly drifted, its tail carving a perfect arc around the bend, splashing water several meters high.
"Drifting around a corner in the rain? Looks like you're really not afraid of losing control!" Zhang Jie's lips curved into a slight smile.
He lightly tapped the brake with his right foot and quickly pulled down the handbrake with his left hand.
The tail of the nissan s15 instantly swung out, tires screaming on the wet road, the car almost scraping the guardrail as it slid through the bend.
It's just drifting, isn't it?
Who's afraid of whom?
I can do it too!
"Hey, that Nissan, your driving skills are good!" a voice from a driver behind came over the radio.
But Zhang Jie didn't have time to enjoy the compliment; DK in front had already accelerated, the 350Z's taillights stretching into two crimson streaks in the rain.
"Trying to shake me off? No way!" He stomped on the accelerator, the roar of the turbocharger instantly drowning out the sound of the rain, and the S15 shot forward like an arrow, chasing after it.
Just as the two cars sped through the Roppongi intersection, piercing police sirens suddenly blared!
"Cops!!!" The radio exploded with chaotic shouts.
"What's going on? How could there be cops ambushing us here?" Disjointed voices came over the radio.
Clearly, these drivers were also somewhat flustered. This wasn't their first escort mission, but it was certainly the first time they'd been stopped by the police.
"Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department on duty! All illegally modified vehicles currently street racing, pull over immediately for inspection!" A loudspeaker broadcasted the warning.
But not a single driver listened, so their choice was to slam down the accelerator.
Getting caught wasn't a problem, but if it affected the cargo, that would be a problem.
Zhang Jie's pupils contracted.
At the intersection ahead, four black-and-white police cars blocked the center of the road, their red and blue lights glaring in the rainy night.
"Damn it, we're ambushed!" DK's 350Z suddenly made a sharp turn, its tires skidding half a circle on the wet ground, then it charged into a narrow alley like a mad bull.
Zhang Jie didn't hesitate, following closely behind.
"Trying to run? Chase them!" The police cars immediately turned around, engines roaring as they gave chase.
In the narrow alley, the two race cars wove through like ghosts.
DK's driving style was almost maniacal; he charged through right-angle turns without slowing down, his car scraping sparks off the walls, and his rearview mirror was directly torn off.
"Damn it! That lunatic!" Zhang Jie gritted his teeth, the S15's chassis groaning under the strain of the violent turns.
The police cars clung on, one even attempting to flank them.
Zhang Jie sharply turned the steering wheel, his car slamming into the police car, the screech of metal scraping echoing through the alley.
Bang!
The police car lost control and crashed into the guardrail, but more sirens converged from all directions.
"Shit! They've sealed off the entire area!" How could they have such a precise range? Logically, they shouldn't, unless there was an inside mole who leaked the information.
The two cars burst out of the alley, ahead lay the port area of Tokyo Bay.
Shipping containers stood like a steel forest, rainwater reflecting cold light off their metal surfaces.
But they were surrounded by converging police cars.
"No way out!" Zhang Jie glanced in his rearview mirror; police cars had blocked the exit.
DK's 350Z suddenly skidded to a stop, he jumped out of his car, and violently yanked open Zhang Jie's car door.
"Give me the box!" he roared, rain streaming down his face, his eyes filled with a violent, oppressive gaze.
He was even a little panicked; after all, this escort mission was extremely important, and he hadn't expected such a huge mess to occur.
Zhang Jie didn't move, nor did he open the door, letting the rain wash down outside the window. Looking at the somewhat anxious DK, Zhang Jie smiled.
"You knew the police were coming all along?" He stared at DK, "You're the young master of the 巽 Group. For this escort, you're both a participant and a supervisor."
DK, standing outside the car door, grinned, "Smart. But you have no choice now. This unexpected situation is also something I didn't want."
Zhang Jie slowly shook his head, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.
"Unexpected? Not at all!" The next second, he violently shifted gears, the S15's tires spun wildly, then it shot out like a cannonball, directly ramming into the police car blocking the road!
"Hey! What are you trying to do!" DK was stunned. You're actually going to go against the police?
Boom—!
The police car was forcibly pushed aside, and Zhang Jie's S15 roared into the rain, disappearing into the night of the port.
The other police cars, seeing this, quickly gave chase to surround him, but Zhang Jie's skills were extremely proficient. In just a few turns, he shook off the police cars behind him.
Helicopters were arriving in the sky, but Zhang Jie still had a little time.
After shaking off all his pursuers, Zhang Jie drove the car directly into an underground garage.
Of course, as he parked the car, Zhang Jie didn't forget to shoot down the cameras.
Only this way could he avoid exposing his whereabouts.
After parking the car in the basement, Zhang Jie went directly to the trunk, opened it, and saw the black briefcase.
Then he opened the briefcase again, and inside, on the foam padding, was a smaller, 30x40 silver briefcase.
"It seems this is my final mission objective, isn't it?" Zhang Jie directly picked up the silver box.
Its weight wasn't heavy, but it felt as if there was nothing inside.
However, none of this concerned Zhang Jie. He carried the box and walked towards another exit, shooting down four surveillance cameras along the way.
Then, near the exit, he forcibly "borrowed" a car for free.
After driving out of the basement, Zhang Jie continued towards the direction of the pier.
As Zhang Jie approached the pier, his phone vibrated.
He pulled out his phone, the screen lit up, and an anonymous text message popped up:
"Go to Takeshiba Port, someone will meet you there."
So Zhang Jie didn't hesitate, immediately stepping on the accelerator.
Arriving outside Takeshiba Port, Zhang Jie got out of his car, carrying the briefcase, and walked towards the pier.
Soon, Zhang Jie saw that the boat waiting for him was a speedboat, so without another word, he jumped aboard.
The person on board didn't speak to him, but silently started the speedboat, then headed towards the open sea.
Zhang Jie looked up; in the distance on the horizon, dark clouds rolled, and thunder rumbled faintly.
The rain in Tokyo was far from over.
