The S-Rank didn't press further. Judging by his expression, he was wary that I might be far stronger than him, which was a good call. It had probably saved his life more times than he could count.
"You still need to follow us for questioning."
"Sure."
The walk out of the pub was very quiet. It seemed that incidents like this weren't uncommon in this place after all.
The guard station was carved into the cavern wall a few tiers up. Two more D-Rank guards stood at the entrance and straightened when they saw their S Rank commander. From what I'd overheard, his name was Alton.
I was led to a small room with a stone table and two chairs, no windows, obviously, given we were inside a mountain.
The S-Rank took the seat across from me, folding his hands on the table.
"Name."
"Ace Mercer."
"Rank."
"Unconfirmed." I let a small, apologetic shrug follow the word. "Like I said. Still working that out."
