Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7 : REIKA

"Okay now listen to me closely, we start with a series of jabs, right, left, right, right again, left then a haymaker." okay go. I attempt the moves said with impeccable speed and precision so much so that the others applaud as I step away from the sparring mat. I start at my gloves. Wait… my gloves...., my dark… purple… leather gloves. I stare around.

My eyes flare wide open and I sit upright so quickly and I immediately regret it because a wave of pain quickly registers in my forehead and my hands are quickly at my temple trying to hold my head still as if that helps. "Reika." he says my name so gently as he settles by my side on the bed. My eyes shift to him slowly as if registering him for the first time. He's in my room, but Garth? Wait, did we? I quickly lift my duvet to find myself fully clothed and as ironic as it sounds a pang of disappointment engulfs my chest.

"We didn't....um" Reid says with an awkward smile but then shakes it off worry taking over. "What do you remember from last night?" he asks his tone laced with worry and brows so furrowed that two deep lines form between them. Okay, I nod to him slowly and it all hits me at once like a thunderbolt.

Garth, biceps, sexy, explosion, robbery, dark purple, gun, fighting, Reid, blood, water....blackout. Bitch the other shoe dropped. My shoulders droop in sadness. Follow the following combination, one two one two, duck then feint and quickly follow up with an uppercut and you're good to go. The orders play out in my head and oddly enough it feels like I've done them before. Then the fight comes to me again….last night.

Dark purple leathers and a fight that felt so familiar like I've done it before, well the combinations that is. "Hey," Reid says calmly using his index finger and thumb to tilt my face toward him. How do I explain this to him.

Stop touching me Reid, my skin is combusting. My….I swallow, my eyes lock with his. "The attacks, ummm, do you know who it was?"

"Just a robbery apparently, they've been turned in, well their bodies have. don't worry, it was self defense on your side plus your weapon is legal so… you're good to go."

"I knew how to fight Reid." I say quickly as if he'll just understand. "I have never taken combat classes in my life and yet when one of them came at me I knew exactly how to attack defend and counter them. It doesn't make sense. And all this purple leather thing….."I shake my head as I explain because I feel like there's no chance he'll understand.

"I get it,"

"You do?"

"Well, not entirely to the extent you think, but yeah, for now all I can make out of your situation is as simple as muscle memory. Your conscious mind might not recall you ever learning any of what you did, but in that moment the body did." he says with his hand placed on top of mine. "Let me make you some coffee." he offers getting up.

"Reid," I say and he stops in his tracks looking back. He's taking everything so lightly, so in stride it seems…..like maybe he's done this before. Don't push it girl, not now, but it might be true also. Shit now you called him what the f are you going to say? I'm hungry by the way.

"I'm hungry." I blurt out and his facial features relax.

"I made pancakes…want some?" "Will do." Could I possibly have amnesia from something. There's a gap, a time gap in my head... could it be? Naah. I shrug the thoughts off because it simply doesn't make sense. And the conscious mind sadly doesn't like to cooperate that much when it comes to things it can't explain.

Reid walks in minutes later with breakfast and a first aid kit. "What's that for I'm not injured." "I know, I'm just skeptical. Plus you're my best friend and you could have died 'yesterday."

"And yet somehow I ended up leaving without a scratch on my body compared to Mr. Good looking that you set me up with." he laughs at that. "Oh my God Reika!"

"What, I'm not trying to be insensitive, I'm just saying come on. Garth is a legit security guy, or whatever it is he does. I'm just boring old me...or maybe I have powers"

Or maybe I'm overly delusional. "Or maybe none of these even happened."

"You're doing it again."

"What."

"Overthinking, over explaining, relax, I'm sure if there's something that maybe you don't remember then it will come to you." He says handing me some pancakes.

I'm sure it will. I take the pancake and some maple syrup and dig in. Maybe he's right. Maybe I am overthinking this. Well if I do remember anything. I'm sure It will come with due time, if there's anything to remember.
