Chapter 16 - Genesis protocol[3]

The following day.

The following day came faster than I expected.

Theo and I decided to go through with it—to help Lucielle get into Titan's Wrath. Her real intentions were still a mystery, but I figured time would drag them out eventually.

When we met Leon to discuss adding her to the Genesis Protocol, his usual calm demeanor shifted. His eyes narrowed slightly, scanning Lucielle like he was reading through her soul.

For a moment, I thought he'd refuse.

But then he leaned back in his chair, exhaled, and said, "Fine. She can join… but her performance will determine if she stays."

Even as he said that, I could tell—he didn't trust her one bit.

It was time for training again—only this time, things felt different.

Ever since my awakening, I could feel everything. The air, the flow of mana, even the faint pulse of energy in the ground beneath my feet. The system window was now something I could access freely—it felt like having a second heartbeat that pulsed with power.

Evelyn was paired with Theo, while Leon decided to take me and Lucielle under his wing. Honestly, it sounded unfair from the start… but whatever.

As the training went on, I could feel my strength rising—steadily, constantly, unnaturally. It wasn't supposed to happen like this. Power usually had limits, barriers you had to grind through. But right now… there were none.

It was as if something inside me had been unlocked, and it refused to stop growing.

And some how all my skills are gone.

'Open system window,' I thought to myself.

It would have been wierd had I said "open" infront of people.

Skills ~

{All skills have been removed since you've awakened properly. You shall start from scratch like a newborn.}!

Even the skill tied to death—the one that had appeared when I awakened—was gone. Vanished like it never existed.

Did it have a special activation condition? Or maybe it only appeared during certain states—like awakening or near-death?

And then there was the sponsor tab.

It showed nothing but a pitch-black mark where the name should be.

Wasn't Luciferin supposed to be my sponsor? The Demon God himself?

None of it made sense. But honestly, I didn't have the time or patience to figure it out.

So I pushed the confusion aside and kept training. The more I moved, the more the energy in me sharpened. Before I knew it, a few new skills had surfaced.

[Atomic Slash.]!

[Phantom feet.]!

[Wrath.]!

[Soul cleaver.]!

[Devour.]!

[Demonic heaven splitter.]!

[Death roar.]!

These new skills honestly looked weak—like the scraps left behind after a feast. Maybe they had growth stages… maybe they'd evolve later. Whatever the case, they weren't worth flexing right now.

I decided to call it a day. Apparently, my useless parents wanted to see me. The timing was suspicious, but fine—might as well see what the monarchs of hypocrisy wanted this time.

After saying my goodbyes, I left the guild grounds and made my way to the 'Kade mansion'.

The moment I arrived, something felt off. There were guards—fully armed, tense, scanning every corner like a war was about to start.

Why the fuck would they need guards? My parents were both Monarch Tier. Two of the strongest beings alive. Who were they scared of?

As I walked in, the mansion loomed over me, impossibly vast. Chandeliers, marble floors, and that suffocating silence that comes from too much luxury.

The Kade mansion—home to power, secrets, and a family that never really felt like one.

"Good evening, and welcome home, sir."

A maid greeted me the moment I stepped through the door. A maid.

I froze for a second. I didn't even know we had maids. This house just kept getting creepier.

"Hello… where are they?" I asked, keeping my tone flat.

"They're waiting in the main hall, sir," she said softly, bowing slightly before gesturing for me to follow.

Her heels clicked lightly against the polished marble as we walked—each step echoing in the cavernous mansion. The hall was about ten meters away, but somehow, the walk felt much longer. The air grew heavier with every step, like the house itself was holding its breath.

"Big brother!!"

That voice—light, warm, and painfully nostalgic—echoed through the marble hall. I didn't even have to turn around to know who it belonged to.

Amelia. My little sister.

She came running toward me, her black hair flowing behind her like night caught in motion. Her smile was as bright as I remembered, maybe even brighter.

Yeah… I have a younger sister. Not many people know that. Everyone talks about my older sister, Alice—the prodigy, the one who carried the family name with grace and power.

But Amelia? She was different. She wasn't the type to care about titles or lineage. She was just… real.

And to be honest, between the two of them, Alice was the only one who ever truly understood me. But Amelia—she was the one who reminded me that I still had something left to protect.

She ran straight into me and threw her arms around my waist, laughing. I couldn't help but smile as I lifted her up and placed her on my shoulders.

"Higher, higher!" she said, giggling.

We made our way down the long corridor toward the main hall. And there they were—the parents of the year—sitting cross-legged, sipping tea like they didn't have a care in the world.

The hall was massive, decorated like some royal lounge—sofas arranged in perfect symmetry, a polished coffee table, faint music playing from somewhere unseen.

"Welcome home, Adrian," my father said.

Those words… they sounded hollow.

Then my mother stood up, and before I could even blink, she was right in front of me—teleportation, of course. She pulled me into a hug so tight I actually heard a crack.

"Gah—Mom—bones—breaking—!"

She just smiled, not loosening her grip.

'I'm dead'
