Chapter 39 - Chapter 36: Training

"A-ten-hut. Detachment...lie down!"

Me and the soldiers around me lied down on the muddy ground.

The cold instantly struck me through the cloth as it soaked.

Rifle on hand as it dirtied up.

Goddammit, I just cleaned this rifle and now I have to do it again?

I slightly raised my head to look at the drill instructor.

She smiled mischievously as we suffered.

Her smile turned as she realized some of us weren't keeping our head down.

"Head down! Especially you Muller! Down!" She commanded.

I looked at her with distain but I had to comply.

"Detachment! Get up!" She ordered.

Without a word, we all stood up, the wet mud still stained on our clothes.

Resting our rifle in a shoulder arm position.

The rifle rested vertically against the shoulder, the barrel pointing up as the rifles buttstock rests on our right palm.

All of us lined up and marched behind our instructor.

***

We soon left our training ground as we walked to our camp.

All tired and dirty.

I don't know if I could even walk that far.

Some of us weren't even resting our rifle the right way.

Amelia shoulder carried her rifle.

Where it positioned behind her neck across the shoulder.

Both of her hands draped over it, with her hands hanging.

Wesley just hold his rifle on his arms.

Tomas and Gideon just carried the rifle with both hands.

Gideon looked particularly exhausted from the intense exercise.

His sweat shoots out of his forehead as he huffs and puffs out of his mouth.

"Geez, how is Gideon still with us right now and the fact that he still insists on with training is crazy to me. Did he always had this with him?" Amelia asked.

"I have no idea. One time, I saw him exercising himself yesterday night. I guess he is very motivated going with us." I replied.

"Maybe he doesn't want to disappoint you guys? I mean he does look like the kind of person who is not fit after all."

"True."

Amelia and I secretly talked to each other but then our instructor yelled.

"What's with this mood huh? How about we sing! Come on, sing together."

Me and Amelia looked at each other in surprise at her words but we had to follow orders.

"The cry resounds like thunders peal...like crashing waves...clang of steel uuuuhhhh

What was it again?" I asked Amelia.

We all tediously sang unspirited.

Some of us weren't even singing and some just gave one liners and that was it.

The rest did sang in full however they couldn't sing out loud.

"Do you call that singing!" Our instructor yelled.

"Detachment, halt!"

We stopped our march and singing.

When we did, all of us quickly fixed their posture and rested their guns correctly this time.

"Unspirited are we? Well this camp isn't for resting you see. This is for work! And I know just the way to spirit you up! Back to our grounds!"

We all turned around and marched back to our training grounds again.

***

"Detachment, lie down!" She yelled.

We were back at training camp and yet again, lied down on the muddy ground.

"You call that lying down! Face fully buried!" She commanded.

"you've got to be fucking kidding me..." Amelia said to herself.

"Hey! Who said that!" Our instructor heard her voice but didn't know who.

"Heh, so this what I get in return huh? Well we'll be doing more work! Now bury your face!"

Despite our detest, we had to carry our order.

I fully planted my face against the earth.

"Good, now get up!" She commanded.

Just like again, we stood up.

My face was fully covered in mire as I looked at her in dislike.

"Now, you will be running around the entire training ground until I say stop. Got it?"

"Yes sir!" We all yelled.

"Good! Now go at it!"

***

The soon sun turned dusk.

Slowly and steadily going beyond the horizon when we finished up our exercise.

We all marched back at our camp.

"Now, you should be all full of spirit by now. Sing!"

"The cry resounds like thunder's peal, Like crashing waves and clang of steel" We all sang with artificial enthusiasm.

Singing loudly and proudly as we can despite our exhaustion, we pulled through.

"Yes! Yes! This is what I call singing!" The instructor also sang along with enthusiasm.

***

Soon enough just right about the sun was about to set and turned dark.

We all made it to our camp to rest.

The instructor lined up us.

"Soldiers halt!" She yelled.

"Inspection at 21:00. Dismissed!"

The moment we heard that word, we all fell and slumped over to the ground.

"Geez, you were all that tired. No matter. We'll do the same tomorrow anyways. I need to relax as well." The instructor said and left us alone.

My back relaxed on the hard ground.

Honestly was better than standing up all day.

"Oh, that whore! That means tomorrow will be more intense!" One of the female soldier yelled.

"I'd like to know what is in her head right now." Another replied.

"Her head is filled with the brim of rodents. That's why!" Wesley yelled.

"Yeah!" we all said in unison.

"Well, I'm gonna cut her up and remove all of the rodents inside!" Amelia said.

"You can't, her skull is denser than a rock." I said.

"And why the hell did you say that out loud Amelia!" Someone yelled.

"I was just tired alright! I didn't actually mean to bring us into more trouble." She said.

"Well, you should be more careful with your words."
