Chapter 34 - Chapter I. Obsidian's Friday.

Obsidian was not used to this. Not being approached. Not being invited. There being nowhere to be invited to, to begin with.

His bark-like skin hid the anger deep within his heart, and he grumbled lowly as he walked.

He walked, naturally, outside. To figure out where Willow had dared to go without his consent.

When he managed to finally get down all those stairs, leaving his legs like jelly, he found Michael walking toward him atop the bridge, the sun falling behind his thoughtful shoulders.

Obsidian ignored Jeremy, who also ignored him, and headed straight to the Chosen.

"Oh, great Chosen, if I could have a moment…" Michael nodded, looking down at the man before him.

"Yes? Do you need something?"

Obsidian's eye twitched. How dare this peasant not use any honorifics? The audacity.

"Yes. I need to know where Willow is, she was not in her chambers when I looked, and I am concerned."

Michael felt his dominant arm twitch, 'Concerned… You slug.' He felt like slapping the man, Willow's words reigniting a sense of purpose he had lost, but the Chosen restrained himself.

'Willow arrived meek, weak, shivering and barely together. The spirit is trying to give her the strength to do what is best for her, as they tend to do when they like their shaman.'

She was growing, the spirit was growing, and Michael wanted to help her, but he had to get the Consort's consent first… And hers.

"She and I just had a lovely conversation while walking through the city. She will no doubt return soon."

Obsidian's anger vanished, replaced by a sense of anticipation.

"Truly? Well, I suppose I can forgive her then. I hope she was to your liking?"

The two Paragons glanced at one another.

"…Yes. You could say so. Nonetheless, I'm afraid I must see the Consort."

Jeremy then clicked his tongue, "Nope, sorry, not possible. He just left with Paul and Leo. He said he wanted to learn how to play cards?"

"What the fuck...?" Michael had never before felt so gobsmacked.

"…The Consort went gambling with the guards?" His aghast face slowly replaced itself with an accepting chuckle, "Of course he did, why am I surprised? I'll just wait for him here then.."

Obsidian's brow furrowed, was he getting ignored? Were they not going to entertain him? What was this?

For the past ages he had been here, no parties were held, no nobility met him, nobody sough alliances or wealth, power, anything at all! This place was entirely uninterested in every card he had to play.

It was a different planet, operating on entirely different common sense! With all the power in the palms of one man entirely indifferent to his praise or subtle hints!

Obsidian sighed, that unfamiliar, disgusting sense of powerlessness creeping up his spine, and he looked at the sun with disgust.

'Fuck waiting. I'm sick of this.'

So Obsidian stormed away. Michael and Jeremy shook their heads in silence when he did so.
