Chapter 109 - Chapter 106 : Teacher, will my third brother be alright

A fierce gust swept past the back of his head, but Xiao Jian's expression didn't change in the slightest.

Dou Qi rippled across his skin, condensing into a thin, shimmering veil.

In the same instant, his fist tore through the air, smashing straight toward Instructor Ruolin.

Ruolin's eyes flickered in surprise. Her strike had been perfectly timed....an attack that forced the enemy to defend.....yet Xiao Jian didn't dodge.

He only summoned a thin layer of Dou Qi as protection and still threw a punch.

Was he confident his attack could threaten her?

Ruolin couldn't see through his strength, but she dared not be careless.

"Water Mirror of Force Dissipation!"

With a soft cry, a torrent of pale-blue Dou Qi burst from her palm, forming an oval mirror of flowing water before her.

This Dou Technique—exclusive to water-type cultivators—wasn't of high grade, merely Yellow Rank: Advanced, yet it was one of the most practical defenses on the continent.

Many water-attribute experts used their powerful energy to form mirrors that could disperse or redirect force.

The mirror was half a meter thick, reflecting a mix of red and blue under the setting sun.

But when Xiao Jian saw it, a faintly sinister smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

He suddenly halted mid-charge, ducking beneath the whip that had barely missed his neck.

His palm, glowing with black light, shot forward and pierced straight into the mirror.

Ruolin froze. Her attack was supposed to neutralize force, yet his hand sank into the mirror as though it were nothing but mist.

A strange chill spread.

Dark light crawled along his palm, staining the once-blue mirror into an ominous indigo.

At that moment, Ruolin felt her control slipping away.

What's going on?

The watching crowd stared wide-eyed. To face a Da Dou Shi head-on.....and even make her defense crumble....,was unheard of!

The freezing black Dou Qi rapidly drew out the heat from the mirror.

Within seconds, the water turned solid, forming a dark-blue sheet of ice. The control in Ruolin's hand snapped completely.

"Ice Mirror—explode!"

A silent command echoed within Xiao Jian's mind.

Crack!

The ice mirror shattered violently, exploding into countless shards.

Xiao Jian's fingers danced through seals, and the shards halted midair, drawn by an invisible pull.

Each shard twisted into a crescent blade of dark-blue ice, circling around him.

Dozens merged together, whirling into a spiraling vortex.

"Frozen Spiral Kill!"

Xiao Jian pressed his palm forward, hurling the icy maelstrom toward Ruolin.

The ground trembled. The spectators gasped. The cold energy alone made their skin sting.

If any of them were caught in that attack, they'd be crippled on the spot.

Ruolin's expression finally hardened. From that brief glimpse, she could tell—the technique's power had reached High Xuan Rank.

And since it had absorbed energy from her own Water Mirror, its strength far surpassed what a one-star Dou Shi should be capable of.

Even she—a five-star Da Dou Shi—had to take it seriously.

Taking a deep breath, she gripped her long blue whip

tighter. Dou Qi surged violently, bursting outward and coalescing in the air.

Moments later, a massive water serpent.....three or four meters long...formed above her, twisting and roaring soundlessly as droplets rained down from its body.

Gasps erupted among the Jia Nan Academy crowd.

"Xuan-rank mid-level Dou Technique—Water Mandala?!"

"Wow, the instructor's actually using that! Xiao Jian's in big trouble!"

Xue Ni shook her head, sighing in disbelief as she whispered to Xiao Yu.

But Xiao Yu's calm eyes didn't show concern.

She had once witnessed Ruolin unleash Water Mandala at full strength.

Back then, the serpent had been over eight meters long.....this one was clearly a restrained version.

If it were an ordinary opponent, Ruolin's mercy wouldn't matter.

But against Xiao Jian... this might not go the way she expected.

Before anyone could speak again, the serpent roared forward, crashing into the spiraling storm of ice.

"Boom!"

A thunderous impact shook the arena. Shockwaves rippled outward, forcing everyone to retreat several steps.

Farther away, Xiao Yan raised his arm to block the blast.

"Teacher, will my third brother be alright?" he asked quietly.

"Heh... I'd say that instructor's the one who's about to lose," Yao Lao chuckled within his mind.

."With the way your brother fights, he'd never use a high-level Dou Technique just to trade blows. Watch closely."
