The Garden of Recollection welcomed two robbers today.
A man and a woman, a perfect team for a clean and easy robbery.
The man kills without batting an eye; the woman grabs any Memory Bubble she sees.
You could say they pluck the goose as it flies and skin the beast as it runs.
"How is this possible…"
A Memokeeper looked at their wound in disbelief.
The "Memoria substance" used to construct their bodies was constantly leaking from the wound, which was suffused with the dense aura of The Hunt.
"Liking my stats?"
Leon gripped Vanquisher, a look of pure satisfaction on his face.
Seems this "Meme Body's" physical immunity isn't as amazing as the legends say.
See? What did I tell you?
All game mechanics are just cheap tricks. The most invincible mechanic is to temper your own stats to the absolute peak!
Environmental debuffs, special restrictions, whatever fancy nonsense they throw at you—who's afraid of that!
"Has the Xianzhou Alliance gone mad?"
Such powerful energy of The Hunt... besides the Xianzhou Alliance, who else in the universe has it?
The Memokeeper couldn't understand why the Xianzhou Alliance would suddenly attack the Garden of Recollection. The Path of Remembrance is neutral and never gets involved in such messes!
A disaster falling from the heavens while you're just sitting at home!
"What are you blabbering about? I'm a Galaxy Ranger!"
See? This is the benefit of having a smurf account.
"A Galaxy Ranger?"
The Memokeeper gasped for breath. "By what right does your sword of The Hunt strike down an official of Remembrance?!"
"If you do no wrong by day, you need not fear the watchman's knock by night."
Leon drew his bow, a brilliant violet arrow of light coalescing on the string.
"You might think bullying ordinary people is no big deal. After all, they can't fight back and can only swallow their anger, forced by reality."
"In this vast universe, if you don't become a Pathstrider, you're not really a person. That's the only way to control your own destiny, and I have no problem with that."
"But, you should have some sense of what you can and can't do."
"Even Pathstriders can't cross that line. The Galaxy Rangers exist as a warning against that very thing!"
Leon tried his best to suppress a laugh. "To put it bluntly, whoever has the bigger fist makes the rules."
"The reason you can steal others' memories without consequence is that you're stronger than them."
As he spoke, he exchanged a look with Black Swan, as if asking if she was done collecting.
Black Swan nodded.
"And as a Galaxy Ranger, I'm stronger than all of you. So I'm here, to claim justice for the people of Holstein!"
As he finished speaking, Leon's fingers, holding the light arrow, were about to release.
"Wait!" the Memokeeper shouted hastily.
As a being of 'Meme,' it had been a long time since they felt such a direct threat of death.
Back when they chose to discard their physical body, they thought nothing in the galaxy could ever threaten their life again.
Turns out, they met their match today.
"Save it for my arrow!"
Leon couldn't hold back his laughter as the light arrow, its power deliberately controlled, shot forth!
Bang!
With a resounding boom, another room in the Garden of Recollection was utterly destroyed by him in a flash!
"Next."
The two turned and walked away, bathed in the light of the arrow's explosion.
Tap, tap, tap.
"Memokeeper, where do you think the Memory Bubble of 'Holstein' is?"
Leon chatted with the person beside him as they walked.
"Somewhere in this Garden of Recollection, I suppose,"
Black Swan said without a second thought.
"What I mean is…"
Leon chuckled. "Where the hell are you taking me?"
His expression was friendly, but his words were sharp.
"I'm asking you, where's my Holstein Memory Bubble? How many rooms has it been? You're a trash teammate!"
Leon lamented internally that he never got an easy match.
"Don't be anxious. We're going to loot all the Memoria Bubbles in the end anyway, so it doesn't matter where we go first."
Black Swan gave an awkward smile.
"You still have the nerve to smile?" Leon said with a dry laugh.
"What can I do about it?"
Black Swan defended herself. "Unless I'm a spy for the Cremators."
"Otherwise, even as a Memokeeper, I can't just have x-ray vision and know what's inside every Memory Bubble."
"All a Memokeeper has is a sense for 'memory,' or to put it simply, intuition."
Black Swan explained why she had made mistakes several times. "A Memory Bubble storing the entirety of Holstein... the sheer volume of memory can't be small."
"Since that's the only clue."
"I can only use that as a starting point, searching this Garden for high-volume Memoria Bubbles and leading you to storm them one by one."
"If we get lucky, everyone's happy. If not, it's no big deal."
"They're all getting taken in the end anyway, so whether they're from Holstein or not, it's not a loss."
Black Swan said, hoping for his understanding.
She was already playing her support role well. What could she do if her skills were just what they were?
"You're only good for being a storage mascot."
Leon's words were blunt.
Sigh, what was the difference between this and him running the instance alone?
Just with an extra follower to pick up loot?
Haha, how true to life.
Whatever, having someone to handle these Memoria Bubbles was good. At least it saved him some trouble.
Besides, Leon was used to being alone.
"Actually, I can help you fight monsters too. It's just that you usually one-shot them with an arrow, so I don't get a chance to participate."
Black Swan spoke up for herself.
"Speaking of which, are there any Emanators in this Garden of Recollection?" Leon thought of something and asked.
If not, he was about to start a one-sided slaughter.
If there was, he'd kick them to death first.
"I don't know, but there should be."
Black Swan wasn't sure either, just offering her speculation.
"There are an exceptional number of high-volume Memoria Bubbles here. A typical branch, especially one belonging to the Cremators, wouldn't have such a deep collection."
"As a Memokeeper, I understand the weight of 'memory' better than anyone."
"The Holstein Great Silence involves the theft of memories on a galactic scale."
Black Swan continued, "Without the help of an Emanator, achieving that would be next to impossible. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it a fool's dream."
The evidence was solid, and the meaning was clear.
It was highly likely an Emanator was involved, but whether they were in this specific Garden right now was hard to say.
"Do you know of any famous Emanators in the Cremators?" Leon asked, stroking his chin.
To him, it didn't matter who the enemy was.
He was only asking because he wanted to know who was more infamous for their evil deeds, hoping that one would be the big EXP piñata.
Someone truly confident in their stats shows no hesitation on their face.
"Sorry, I don't really deal with the Cremators."
Black Swan stated that she was an orthodox Memokeeper of the 'Flowing Light Garden' and wasn't familiar with the schismatic group.
"I know of one."
And just then, Phantylia spoke up.
