Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Appointment of Senior Deacons

Chapter 49: Appointment of Senior Deacons

The business trip commission came from Enmat Port.

At the same time as the human trafficking case was discovered in Tingen City, a similar situation occurred at Enmat Port in Eastchester County. Local Night Watchmen intercepted an unmarked cargo ship, its cabin also filled with slaves from the Southern Continent. However, the slaves in Enmat Port were not as fortunate as those in Tingen City. Upon being rescued, and before the Night Watchmen could question them, these poor souls suddenly exploded.

It was a true self-explosion. The slaves' flesh and blood seemed to have transformed into inflated balloons, exploding into dust with a bang. The sailors on the ship were also killed in the same way, and even several night watchmen were caught in the blast, suffering heavy casualties.

After the news was passed back to the temple, the temple's top leaders determined that this incident should be the same incident as the case in Tingen City, and asked Tingen City's Night Watchmen to provide assistance.

——In the captain's office, Dunn Smith shared the news he got in the church with everyone.

That sounds so dangerous.

"Excuse me, can I not go?"

Lu Ze asked Dunn seriously.

"Sorry, no."

Dunn also answered seriously.

"Captain, I'm just a Sequence 9 support staff. You're not asking me to die, are you?"

Lu Ze smiled bitterly.

He was on a business trip, in the next county, and had to be involved in something so dangerous. He had been stabbed once before, and this time the enemy was a bomb-making type, which was much more dangerous than the last time. Although he would not be afraid of anything, he was not willing to take the initiative to cause trouble.

"This wasn't arranged by me."

Dunn rubbed his forehead, a rare look of helplessness on his face. "It was Senior Deacon Cecima. He specifically selected you."

Krestel Cecima?

Lu Ze quickly recalled that stern face and the horrifying image of evil spirits wriggling between his teeth.

"Why did the senior deacon choose me specifically?"

Lu Ze was a little puzzled. He hadn't provoked him. Or was he particularly optimistic about me?

"During the incident at Enmat Port, the deceased were transformed into flesh and blood bombs. This is a very iconic feature of the Mystic Prayer Path, and it's the flesh and blood magic used by Sequence Beyonders in the Mystic Prayer Path," Dunn explained. "Therefore, Lord Cecima specifically sent me a telegram requesting that I send you to cooperate with the investigation at Enmat Port."

Shit, that's how it is. The Aurora Society, the Aurora Society again. Why are they involved in all the bad things? Apparently, it's because of my path. Who told you to be the only secret praying member in the Goddess Church?

"Okay. I understand."

Lu Ze cursed the Aurora Club a thousand times in his heart, and could only nod and agree, "Then when should I go over?"

"Don't worry, you're not the only one going."

Dunn smiled and said, "Enmat Harbor belongs to other Nighthawk teams, so we still need our own people to go outside. So, to protect your safety, I'm letting Leonard and Klein go with you. Leonard is quite capable, and Klein can provide support such as divination."

Thank you, Captain. Although you have less hair, you are still a very nice person.

Lu Ze felt a surge of emotion. He glanced at the two colleagues standing beside him and finally understood why Dunn had called them into the office. Leonard remained unfazed, and Klein didn't seem to mind the trip either. They both agreed and arranged to take the steam train to Enmat Harbor the next morning.

After that, Dunn reminded them of some things to pay attention to when on a business trip. Seeing that they understood, he let them go.

"Why do I feel like the Aurora will wrap me up?"

After leaving the captain's office, Lu Ze shook his head and complained to the two of them.

"You're the only secret praying member in the entire Goddess Church," Leonard said with a smile. "To be honest, I'm afraid you'll be called in for any Aurora Society-related cases in Loen from now on."

".Goddess, please don't do that."

When Lu Ze thought about his business trip across the country, and such a dangerous one at that, he felt a headache and even started making a wish to the goddess.

It was already time to get off work. After the three of them went out, they found that except for those who stayed behind or were on duty, everyone else had left.

"Then let's meet at the station tomorrow morning."

Leonard and the other two weren't on the same route, so after exiting the security company, he waved to them and leisurely left. Luze and Klein were left alone, walking to the street corner to wait for the public carriage back to Daffodil Street.

It was dusk, and the setting sun dyed everything on Zouteland Street golden, making the people and things walking on it look like they were gilded.

"I really don't want to go on a business trip."

Lu Ze looked at the scenery in front of him and said sincerely.

"Just think of it as traveling."

Klein persuaded with a smile. He suddenly remembered something and reminded her, "By the way, Lu Ze. Didn't you and Cecilia make an appointment to see a show this weekend? Now you can't go anymore."

Ah, there's this matter.

Lu Ze was stunned, and then he felt even more unhappy.

————

Lu Ze had already broken his contract once before, due to the Lanevus case. Now that he'd broken his promise for the second time, he felt somewhat embarrassed. After returning home, he reluctantly and awkwardly told his sister that he couldn't go to the performance again.

"Oh, I see. I'll go pack your luggage."

Surprisingly, Cecilia didn't get angry. Instead, she immediately thought of Lu Ze's plans for tomorrow. "We don't have a suitcase at home. Should we go buy one before the shops close?"

"Sister, aren't you angry?"

He couldn't help but ask.

"Why am I angry?"

Cecilia gave him a strange look. "This isn't something you can decide. Instead of wasting time on meaningless things like this, you might as well get more work done. Besides, it's just a matter of waiting a few more days. We can look at it together when we get back."

Having said that, she stood up and looked Lu Ze in the face with her clear blue eyes. "Lu Ze, I've been waiting for you to recover for years. Now it's just a delay of a few days. How can I not wait any longer?"

Sister, you have a really open mind.

Lu Ze was filled with emotion and said, "You make a lot of sense. Okay, I'll go buy a suitcase now."

After exiting the gate of No. 6 Daffodil Street, he did not rush to catch a carriage. Instead, he first walked to No. 2 on the same row, which was Klein's home.

After ringing the doorbell, a reserved little maid opened the door.

"Excuse me, who are you?"

She leaned against the door and asked cautiously.

Klein had previously told him that the family had recently hired a maid who, in her spare time, was learning cooking techniques from him. The maid had only been at the Moretti household for a few days and didn't know Luze.

Should I hire a maid? Lu Ze thought to himself and said to the maid, "Please tell Mr. Moretti that his colleague is here to visit."

"What's wrong?"

An adult man's voice came from behind the door. Peeking past the maid, he saw a man with thinning hair. His features bore a resemblance to Klein. This man was none other than Klein's older brother, Benson Moretti.
