Chapter 55 - Chapter 55 Waiting

Chapter 55 Waiting

Prejudice in people's hearts is a mountain.

Having worked at Blackthorn Security in Tingen for a long time, Lu Ze had long been accustomed to a calm and rational captain like Dunn. He almost forgot that the most common difficulties people encounter at work don't come from the outside, but from their stupid colleagues, incompetent bosses, and idiot managers.

Edward rejected Luzer's suggestion, arguing that a ritual to commemorate the fall of a deity should not be held before the sacred gates of Charnis. Leonard then suggested that the ritual could be performed on Earth, but this was also rejected, as the scale of the event might leak information.

Leonard was still arguing his case, but Luzer had already realized that the key issue wasn't there—it was that Edward simply didn't want to rely on them to resolve the matter.

So Luze stopped Leonard, then turned to him with a smile, "Captain Edward, I don't deny that my ritual requires the aid of evil forces. But since you disagree with my proposal, you must already have another solution."

The other party seemed very confident, probably because they had other support and were confident that they could solve the problem even without Lu Ze's intervention.

"You guessed right. That's right, there's an experienced support member in the 'Mechanical Heart' team in Port Enmat. He's a Sequence 7 of the 'Spy' pathway and has handled similar extraordinary events many times before."

Sure enough, Edward had already found someone else. Now, facing Luze's questioning, he no longer concealed anything, "I've already made arrangements with 'Machine Heart,' and that extraordinary individual will be here tonight. He will obtain information from the target in a more normal way."

"Captain Edward!"

Dai Li frowned and said, "You went out yesterday afternoon and didn't come back, just to talk to the Mechanical Heart about this?"

Edward smiled at Daly and did not deny it.

Then he turned to Luze and said in a polite but distant tone, "On behalf of the Night Watchers of Enmat Port, I would like to express my gratitude to Captain Dunn and his three team members of Tingen City for their assistance."

"Your proposed plan is interesting, but considering the relevant reasons, I have decided to adopt a more prudent approach—in that case, the Holy Church will likely accept it. I just don't know if the three of you have any objections."

His words, though seemingly a question, were actually a statement, clearly telling them not to get involved.

Of course I have opinions, damn it.

Lu Ze didn't make a sound, but first glanced at the monster in the cage.

Theoretically speaking, a Seeker who is also skilled in various rituals can also lift the Blood Curse, especially since the one they invited was a Sequence 7 powerhouse.

However, based on his observation, the monster's aura was peculiar, seemingly concealing an even more frenzied power within. It was like a bomb inside a bomb; if one simply removed the outermost layer and thought everything was fine, the outcome would be predictable.

If Lu Ze were to handle it, he would naturally have a way to deal with it properly, but who can blame him when Lu Ze doesn't want to use him?

Lu Ze smiled.

He's waiting to see what happens.

"We are here to assist and cooperate with the Port of Enmat, and of course we will respect your decision."

He replied in a tone that was impeccable.

"I really didn't expect him to bring the people from the Mechanical Heart."

After bringing Lu Ze and the other two back to the hotel, Dai Li still seemed furious.

"Is it really worth going to this extent just because they don't like us?"

Klein asked, somewhat puzzled.

What was originally an internal matter for the Night Watchers has now been dragged into the outside world. Although official Extraordinary users usually cooperate with each other, hiring a Sequence 7 Extraordinary user to do such a dangerous task inevitably involves incurring some favors or exchanging favors.

After a moment of silence, Daly sighed and explained:

"Perhaps it's because Captain Edward wants to take it a step further."

It turns out that recently, a high bishop named Ince Zangwill from the Church of the Goddess of Night defected, taking with him a level 0 sealed artifact. Leaving aside how to capture and deal with Ince Zangwill, his defection created a vacancy in the high bishop's position, and everyone under him with ambition began to stir, including Edward.

Those on night duty are also human beings, and as humans, they have selfish desires and their own thoughts.

If the slave ship case were solved by the night watchmen from out of town, it might damage Edward's reputation and hinder his promotion. Adding to this, the fact that it was the Tingen night watchmen he disliked made him even more displeased.

"It's alright, Ms. Daly."

Lu Ze laughed, "It's good that things are resolved. This makes me feel much more relaxed, and I can take some time to stroll around the city. By the way, are there any underground markets in Enmat Port? I'd like to replenish some extraordinary materials while I'm at it."

"Yes, a market for extraordinary materials? Of course there is. It's just three blocks away on White Tower Street. If you walk east along the street, you'll see a bar called 'The Unruly.' The market is the beach in the bar's backyard."

After giving him the address in detail and chatting with the others for a few more minutes, Daly also left in a hurry because she had something to do, leaving only the three people from Tingen City in the room.

"Speaking of which, what's the deal with that archbishop?"

Lu Ze recalled what Dai Li had just mentioned.

"Ince Zangwell, the Archbishop of the Goddess Church, defected after being banned from further advancement after failing to advance to Sequence 4," Klein explained to him after reading the internal report. "When he defected, he stole a Level 0 sealed artifact, 0-08. The only description of this sealed artifact is that it is a quill pen that can write without being dipped in ink."

Can you write without using ink? And how does its specific function relate to this?

Lu Ze understood the danger level of Level 0 sealed artifacts and wondered to himself, "Could it be that these things come with a curse, killing whoever they're sealed with?" He then thought, "Never mind, don't worry about it. There are dedicated pursuit teams; it's none of my business anyway."

He looked up and asked the other two in a relaxed tone, "I'm planning to go check out that market, do you want to come?"

"I want to rest for a while this afternoon, so I won't go."

Klein said.

Today is Monday, and he's preparing to hold a tarot reading session.

Luzer then looked at Leonard and found that Leonard was also looking at him, and his eyes were a little strange.

"What's wrong with you? Why are you looking at me like that?"

Are you planning to curse Edward to death?

Leonard asked quietly.

"ah?"

Lu Ze was stunned for a moment, then said irritably, "Are you kidding me!"

"So you just accepted it so calmly? I thought you would argue with that captain on the spot." Leonard and Luzer had been teammates for a while, so he knew his personality somewhat. "But the fact that you held back made me wonder if you were planning to get revenge on him when you got back."

Lu Ze couldn't help but chuckle.

Leonard was right about one thing: he held back not for any other reason than to see the joke later. However, he couldn't admit it aloud, so he just shook his head and said, "You think too badly of me, and I regret that. Since you don't want to go out either, I'll go by myself."

After saying that, Luze ignored Leonard's gaze from behind and left the room.
