Chapter 99: The Possibility of My Sister Becoming a Beyonder
Narcissus Street 6, 1 AM, late at night.
The living room lights were still on, and two exceptionally beautiful ladies sat on the sofa, seemingly waiting for something.
Unlike the mature and calm red-haired woman, the younger, black-haired Cecilia remained restless, constantly looking towards the door.
"Don't worry, your brother has succeeded and is on his way back now," Ms. M, the red-haired woman, said gently.
One of her golden eyes had turned azure blue, and her gaze seemed to transcend the current obstacles. "He's already at the intersection of Narcissus Street. He'll be home in another dozen meters."
Before she could finish her sentence, the black-haired Cecilia immediately stood up and walked quickly towards the porch.
Just as Cecilia walked over, the door opened from the outside, and she saw her brother, Lu Ze, walk in carrying a briefcase.
His handsome face was a little pale, and he didn't look very well. His steps were unsteady as he walked in, as if he couldn't even carry the briefcase anymore.
"Lu Ze!"
Cecilia quickly stepped forward to take the briefcase from Lu Ze's hand.
"I'm fine."
Lu Ze smiled, not letting his sister touch the contents inside.
On the way back, his injuries had healed as expected. However, as compensation, a strong sense of hunger surged within him, as if his body was being hollowed out from the inside. "My dear sister, I'm hungry. Is there anything to eat at home? Meat would be best, and tender."
"I'll go to the kitchen and look right away," Cecilia said, turning and heading into the kitchen.
Lu Ze sent his sister away, then walked to Ms. M with the briefcase, placed it on the table, and opened it.
A few boxes were piled in one corner of the case, emitting a bloody smell. These were the Demoness organs he had extracted. He didn't want his sister to see them and planned to put them away separately later and preserve them with a ritual to ensure freshness.
On the other side of the case were items taken from Mrs. Sharon.
Among these items, besides some ladies' personal effects and a small amount of paper money, three were most conspicuous.
One was the Beyonder characteristic that had separated from Mrs. Sharon's body after her death. It was a dark purple crystal, translucent and radiant, and faintly, one could seem to hear ambiguous whispers emanating from it.
Another special item looked like a sharp thorn, black iron in color, yet it felt light as a feather when picked up. Based on his spiritual intuition, Lu Ze believed this should also be a Beyonder characteristic.
As for the remaining item, it was what Ms. M had asked Lu Ze to get for her—the bottle containing red liquid, extracted from the life force of many deceased people in Tingen City.
Lu Ze had once seen Mrs. Sharon use it to mend her wounds.
"Here, what you asked for."
He took out the bottle, placed it on the table, then closed the briefcase.
Ms. M took the small bottle.
Lu Ze watched her actions. He saw Ms. M open the cap and directly drink all the liquid inside. Blood-red light emerged on her body, and she couldn't help but lower her head, trembling and letting out a soft hum. After a moment, she slowly recovered.
Lu Ze's eyebrows furrowed slightly. Releasing the restriction on his ears, he found that the sound of flesh tearing on Ms. M's body had become softer, no longer as intense as before.
Indeed, she was using that bottle of liquid for healing.
Although he had already guessed this would be the case, it was a pity he couldn't add poison to it.
"Are you regretting not putting strong poison in it?" Ms. M asked with a light laugh, as if seeing through Lu Ze's thoughts.
"Of course not."
Lu Ze lowered his eyelids. "The bombs you planted are still within my sister and me. As long as you don't die immediately after being poisoned, you'll have enough time to kill us."
Besides, Shepherds have such vigorous life force and are so difficult to kill; he wouldn't be able to find a drug that could instantly kill her in such a short time.
"That's right, I'm very pleased that you're so sensible," Ms. M said with a smile. "As a reward for fulfilling my request, what do you want?"
Reward?
Hearing Ms. M say this, Lu Ze couldn't help but be startled.
Is she genuinely offering a reward, or does she have an ulterior motive?
"What, you don't trust me?" Ms. M said.
Lu Ze didn't speak.
"It's a pity then. How about this: I'll teach you some advanced knowledge about potions, or rather, Beyonder characteristics. This is something the Church of the Evernight won't tell you," Ms. M sighed, seeing Lu Ze's ambiguous attitude.
"You should already know the acting method, so I'll teach you the three laws of Beyonder characteristics," Ms. M said.
Lu Ze readily agreed. He took the white bread and black tea Cecilia had prepared to fill his stomach, eating and listening as Ms. M slowly explained the three laws.
The three great laws of Beyonder characteristics are the laws of indestructibility, conservation, and convergence. Indestructibility means that Beyonder characteristics cannot be destroyed; they will separate from deceased Beyonders.
Conservation means that the total amount of characteristics remains constant. Convergence means that characteristics of the same Sequence tend to aggregate. In his previous experiences, Lu Ze had vaguely recognized some of these patterns, and now, listening to Ms. M's explanation, he suddenly fully understood.
No wonder Beyonders would shed characteristics after death; it was because characteristics do not perish. Wait, if that's the case...
"Then the main ingredient for the Listener that you provided me earlier, could it be…"
"Exactly, it's the characteristic that separated from a Listener who died earlier," Ms. M said indifferently.
Lu Ze's expression changed slightly, and he paused his eating, but he quickly returned to normal, picking up the white bread again, dipping it in butter and eating it, occasionally taking a sip of black tea.
"Also, among the things you got from that Demoness, there's an Assassin Beyonder characteristic," Ms. M smiled. "If you knew what the auxiliary ingredients were, perhaps you could let your sister consume it and become a Beyonder. Did you manage to psychically obtain the potion formula from the Demoness?"
Lu Ze recalled for a moment and knew she was referring to the black iron-colored sharp crystal. Mrs. Sharon was a Beyonder of the Demoness Pathway, so it wasn't strange for her to possess a low-Sequence Beyonder characteristic.
But, making Cecilia a Beyonder…
He hesitated for a moment.
Just then, Lu Ze heard a sound. It turned out Cecilia was bringing out the prepared food and placing it on the table. She must have heard Ms. M's words—or rather, the latter had deliberately let her hear them.
"Brother, is an Assassin an offensive Beyonder?" she asked while preparing cutlery for Lu Ze.
"...Yes, they are," Lu Ze replied.
"I see. Then, Brother, if possible, I would like to become a Beyonder too."
After finishing her preparations, Cecilia simply sat beside Lu Ze, looking earnestly into his eyes with her equally azure blue eyes, and said this.
