Chapter 35 - Fifty-Fifty Gamble

It looks like in the first round one student has been selected to be eliminated.

So now we will begin the second round.

"Wait! I have a question." a student spoke.

"Go ahead."

"How many rounds are we going to play?"

"We will play until only 100 students are eliminated."

All the students freaked out.

"There are maybe 600 students in this big room. So only 500 will be alive."

"It's kind of unfair."

"Because this game is pure luck. So I can't even find a strategy to win."

Then I saw a man pulling the hand of the eliminated student.

He was resisting but he couldn't win against him and got out of the room.

Then the hologram spoke one more time.

"So the second round begins now; take your papers."

As soon as the round started, a total of 10 students protested about the game but there was nothing to do.

They soon understood this and became quiet.

As everyone started to take their papers, I also took a red coloured paper.

I got the number 87 this time.

As I waited, every student had taken their papers and the hologram appeared again.

"Students, now I am going to announce the elimination numbers."

"So the numbers are:"

"23"

"12"

"41"

"67"

"418"

"108"

"209"

"101"

"59"

"160"

"346"

"And"

"129"

"Wait, a total of 12 numbers. Why are there so many numbers?"

"Students, in this round a total of 10 students have been eliminated."

"What? 10 people! That's way too much for one round."

But when the guard took them, I noticed a thing. It was the exact same students who protested.

"Does this game have a pattern?"

Then a thing hit me.

I hadn't heard any screams or gunshots and the students who show bravery or protest are eliminated. But then why didn't they kill them in front of us?

Could this mean:

In this game...

Elimination = Alive

And

Alive = Elimination

If my assumption is true, then I need to be eliminated as soon as possible.

But if my assumption turns out to be wrong, I will die.

So the chance is 50/50.

So in this game I am gambling with my life.

I need to take this risk.

"So students, we are now going to begin round 3."

As soon as this announcement was made, I shouted,

"This game isn't fair. I don't like this. Why is this game pure luck? There isn't any skill included. I oppose this. Stop this game!"

Saying this, I became quiet.

No one took my words seriously because I am just a nobody around them.

This time no other students opposed, so I am the only one that should be eliminated.

Then the students started to take papers again.

I also took a paper. The colour of it was blue, my favourite colour.

This time my number was 489.

And the hologram spoke again.

"Students, now I am going to announce the elimination numbers for this round."

"The numbers are:"

"7"

"69"

"426"

"219"

"And..."

"Uhh, maybe my assumption was wrong."

It's not like I will be correct all the time.

"The number 489!"

"Wait! What? It's my number! So am I correct? So in this logic, I should not be eliminated."

"Students, only one has been eliminated in the third round."

Then the guard came near me and took me with him.

My half body was trembling with fear and the other half was thinking I had cleared this game.

As I walked with the guard, I saw some other students who were not in my room.

Then the guard stopped and pushed me into a room.

I almost fell because of the force. Then I turned back; the door has been locked again.

I was alone in the room. So I still don't know what will happen to me.
